Shrapnel is a heroic Decepticon Insecticon from the Shattered Glass continuity family.
It really bugs us that we couldn't think of a good joke to put here.

Shrapnel (aka Skrapnel) is a heroic Insecticon. He has electric powers which he uses for justice.

Skrapnel led the Insecticon battle squad into Goldbug's fortress to rescue Starscream from captivity. While frying Searchlight with his electric powers, he asked Venom if he missed the fighting, before giving him a joyful high five. Immediately after, Skrapnel and the others engaged Goldbug, who took out most of the team in mere moments. Skrapnel and Venom were left the last ones standing, but the former soon met his own end by being blasted in the chest by the warlord's cannon. The wounded Venom reached toward Skrapnel's corpse in his own last moments before Goldbug ended him as well. Shattered Glass #4

Collector's Edition Zaptrap was officially repurposed as Shattered Glass Shrapnel.
Collector's Edition Zaptrap is a redeco of the original Shrapnel mold, transforms into a mechanical stag beetle. Its colors are based on the mold's original pre-Transformers "Waruder Kuwagatrer" Diaclone release. The "control seat" in the insect-mode back / robot-mode chest can open up and store one of the three energon cubes that come with the set, but of course you can chuck in anything that'll fit if it makes you happy.
This release uses the original rifle variation without the fins on the back end, though the set's stock photography shows the later finned rifle.
Zaptrap was only available in an e-HOBBY exclusive three-piece set with Salvo and Shothole.

Timelines Zaptrap is a Daiclone-themed redeco of the Thrilling 30 Legends-class Skrapnel toy, transforming into a robotic stag beetle.
He was only available at BotCon 2015 as an attendee-only bonus figure, and came packaged with his "pilot"/core Beet-Chit and Spy-Eye. Both smaller figures can be wielded by Zaptrap in Waruder soldier mode via their 5 mm posts, or mounted on his back in insect mode.
His bio card identifies him as "Zaptrap", while his instructions call him "Decepticon Zaptrap".
This mold was also retooled into Combiner Wars Chop Shop.

  • During the Fun Publications era, Shrapnel only appeared on the One Generation Shattered lithograph print that was available at BotCon 2008. It would not be till 2021's Shattered Glass series that "Skrapnel" made an appearance in actual fiction.
  • The IDW incarnation of Skrapnel might be drawn according to the Thrilling 30 Skrapnel toy, but it's not really clear. The color layout doesn't quite match the BotCon Zaptrap toy of that model.
