Star Upper is a Maximal from the Beast Wars II portion of the Generation 1 continuity family.
"Digeridoo, wallaby, fair dinkum, Fosters."

Star Upper (スターアッパー Sutā Appā) is a boxer with the Intergalactic No Holds Barred Boxing competition. His incredible 'star upper' punch, which uses mass shifting to approach the speed of light has earned him the moniker "Hellion Marsupial Brilliant Special", not to mention fame and championship titles. He's also a fearsome kickboxer, even in beast mode.

Despite these strengths, his physical combat skills are of limited use in a battlefield filled with ray-guns and missiles, and he is best suited to one-on-one direct confrontations, not field combat. He also occasionally suffers from a lack of self-confidence, and doesn't always think before acting.

Star Upper decided to travel to Gaia and pose as the Maximals' soon-to-arrive reinforcements from Headquarters (who were in reality the Magnaboss trio) in an attempt to regain his confidence in the intergalactic boxing ring.

After crashing through the roof of the Maximal Gaia base in his spacecar, Star Upper introduced himself to the Maximals, prompting Apache to inquire about his rank. Star Upper claimed to have surpassed "Convoy" and even "Hyper Convoy", holding the special rank of "Hyper Convoy Brilliant Special 98".

Apache then asked if Star Upper had a Matrix, the symbol of Convoys - which Star Upper didn't know he needed, so he quickly lied and said that, as a member of the military information bureau's elite recon team Brilliant Special '98 (or something), he couldn't carry anything that would reveal his identity.

Apache bought this explanation. Apache is not very bright.

After a madcap adventure, he returned to the boxing circuit to reclaim his place as champion. Make a Surprise Attack on the Super Weapon Base!

Duel Fight Transformers Beast Wars

[edit]

If one defeated Megatron in the battles for the Energon Quartz and proved themselves the strongest, Star-Upper appeared to challenge them. Once defeated, Star Upper joined several Predacons and Maximals in a series of one-on-one duels for the Energon Quartz.

Star Upper could also partake in various other tasks, such as a mission to break a boulder to reveal an energon crystal hidden within before sundown, using a block in a mission to defend himself against various incoming projectiles, and missions to run across a pit-riddled field, sometimes involving hideously large bacteria he had to fend off.

After defeating his final opponent, Megatron, Star Upper gained possession of the Quartz. However, he did not desire its power, determined instead to becoming more powerful through his own means. Thus the crystal remained unused. Duel Fight Transformers Beast Wars

Star Upper is a secret character in this game, formally unlocked by receiving a password (げすと) after triggering his appearance in Single Battle on normal difficulty and defeating him. Each character possessed an alternate ending, displayed if the game was beaten with said character. Each character has only their own ending listed on their pages, see the other characters' pages for Star Upper's fate in those outcomes.

Notes

[edit]
Hi. You didn't see this.
  • Star Upper was the winner of a character design contest held by Comic BomBom, with Yasunori Kawai (河合泰典) providing the winning art.
  • The status of an actual, extant "Hyper Convoy" rank is extremely questionable, given Star Upper's penchant for lying and his lack of knowledge about Matrices.
  • Despite having a robot mode character model and cameos in two episodes, Star Upper is never seen in robot mode in the Beast Wars Neo cartoon.
