The Street Speed Team were sent to Velocitron as advance scouts for the Autobots. The planet's mass of winding high-speed tracks really appealed to them, to the point where they started having a hard time tearing themselves from the road to get their missions underway.

The Street Speed Mini-Con Team (Backtrack, Oval, and Spiral) are a trio of tiny robots who turn into tiny sports cars. As Mini-Cons, they each have a Powerlinx port that allows them to connect to toys with compatible Powerlinx plugs, activating gimmicks on the larger toys when attached to a "live" plug. Each toy also has a pseudo-through-axle construction to their wheels, allowing them to roll more smoothly in car mode than most other Mini-Cons.
This version of the Team was nominally available as a three-pack, sold in third assortment of Mini-Con teams in Hasbro's Armada line. This release was also made available in a clamshelled two-pack at various retail outlets: so far, all samples of packs with the Street Speed Team known have come with the Adventure Mini-Con Team as their pack-in partners. In Japan, the pack was part of the massive first wave of Takara's Legend of the Microns product in Japan. Aside from packaging, there are no noteworthy differences between the two companies' releases.
These molds were also used to make the Super Stunt Team, Courier Mini-Con Team, and Highway Domination Mini-Con Team.

Individual members of the "Overdrive Edition" redeco of the Team were given away at the seventeen-day Japanese "World Hobby Fair" in January/February.
In April, they were also available as random freebie giveaways at Ito Yokaido stores with the purchase of any Legends of the Microns product.

In Japan, the Street Speed Team was available both on an individual card and in a multi-pack with "Silverbolt" (the Japanese version of Super-Con Blurr) and his partner "Turbo" (aka Incinerator), released concurrently with the individually-boxed Silverbolt as part of the third wave of Legend of the Microns product.
All the toys in the set are identical to their individual releases.
This set was also released by Sonokong in Korea, with no changes from the Takara release, other than the packaging. This was also the only way to obtain "Sunbolt" (Blurr) and the "Street Speed" in Korea.

A redeco of the Team was planned to be released as part of a “refresh” version of the Street Speed Team in Armada, as part of the late-series "Unicron Battles" subline imprint. The coloration of the Team was a “one-off” of the Takara Overdrive Edition versions, with each toy’s main color shifted over to another one, and the inner robot bits in a light tan rather than white.

Cybertron

The Street Speed Team was retooled for the Cybertron toyline, keeping more or less the same car models, but adding extra Cybertronic detailing. Each Mini-Con's main body was also cast in metal-flake plastic for extra shininess.
The Team was first released in Japan in the very large first wave of Takara's Galaxy Force toyline as the "Auto Microns". It was later released in the fourth wave of Cybertron Scout-class toys. There are seemingly no differences between the Hasbro and Takara releases.

  • For reasons unknown, the Japanese Legends of the Microns Street Speed Team has entirely different package art from the Armada Street Speed Mini-Con Team release.
  • As seen in "Tactician", "Rescue", and "Depart", the Street Speed Mini-Cons received generic recolors in the Armada cartoon and used the same color palettes in each appearance, indicating character models with alternate colors were created for whatever reason.
