Megatron wants Doctor Biggles-Jones... at least, the head part of her.

Synopsis

In Milleville, USA, Cobra Commander tries to order Megatron to transform into tank mode, as that's more explainable than a giant alien robot in the middle of town. The Decepticon ignores this request, noting that a happy Megatron is one less likely to exterminate annoying organisms. Tunnel Rat reports that he sees a large Decepticon, but his attention is averted to the sewers where his team is fighting against Cobra Eels. One Eel tries to send out a signal to Cobra, but Airtight manages to jam it. Despite this, Megatron informs Cobra Commander that he detects a firefight in the sewers, which sets the Commander to order the town under siege and troops to go after the G.I. Joe team in the drainage pipes. He begs Megatron to assist, but the Decepticon is uninterested in the human conflict and only wants to fulfill his deal: Decepticon technology for Doctor Biggles-Jones, who he plans to pack up in liquid nitrogen for a trip to Cybertron.

At the Milleville hospital, Biggles-Jones continues her interrogation of Scarlett about her true loyalty to G.I. Joe while Ninja Force observes outside. The ninja are spotted by the Night Creepers, and the two forces go to battle. Hawk contacts Storm Shadow, ordering Ninja Force to go support the recon team in the sewers, which they set out to do after making short work of the Night Creepers. They are suddenly challenged by the Night Creeper Leader, who Storm Shadow leaves Snake-Eyes to deal with. The Night Creeper Leader is impressed by Snake-Eyes's skill and looks forward to what will be a good fight.

In the hospital room, Scarlett has had enough of people questioning her loyalty and threatens to have the nurse throw Biggles-Jones out, but Biggles-Jones forcibly makes Scarlett hear her explanation, which is overheard by Doctor Mindbender in the next room. Also sharing in the eavesdropping are Slice and Dice, who are told to prepare their weapons...

In the center of town, more Cobra troops are being funneled down the manhole as Megatron smilingly returns with the protoplasm stripper and says he just needs Biggles-Jones's brain and central nervous system. Underneath, the G.I. Joe recon team are surrounded by Cobra troops on all sides, trapping the four. Snake-Eyes and the Night Creeper Leader continue their battle on the rooftops, with the Night Creeper Leader identifying Snake-Eyes's technique as Obake no Odori... which he has countermeasures for in any of the 47 variations. The Night Creeper Leader brags about having learned the "two thousand forms of the ancient masters" and developing defensive techniques for all of them. He swears that there is nothing that can defeat him—NONE! Back in the sewers, the recon team manages to take out one front of Cobra Eels, but they are soon replaced by B.A.T.s, who prove much tougher. Fortunately, Ninja Force comes to the rescue.

At the hospital, Biggles-Jones has finished her explanation and Scarlett realizes that she is the mole from the Department of Defense. Just as she takes in the revelation, Megatron's hand crashes through the wall and abducts Biggles-Jones. Mindbender witnesses the entire thing and tells Slice and Dice to attend to Scarlett. On the nearby rooftop, Snake-Eyes suddenly drops all of his weapons and assumes a position which the Night Creeper Leader recognizes as the Arashikage Mind Set, a truly arcane art unknown to even him. But is he bluffing? While he decides, Slice and Dice are thrashing Scarlett's hospital room in search of her, discovering too late that she's under the bed. The Night Creeper Leader, concluding that Snake-Eyes is a fraud, foolishly rushes to attack, only for his enemy to bend backwards as the Night Creeper Leader flies above. Taking the opportunity, Snake-Eyes catches the Night Creeper Leader off guard and beats him into unconsciousness.

After dealing with Slice and Dice, Scarlett makes an escape from the hospital in search of Biggles-Jones. The recon ream and Ninja Force finally make it out of the sewers, when Hawk meets with them to inform them that G.I. Joe has to withdraw—another agency has already set up a sting operation that G.I. Joe can't interfere with. Storm Shadow protests that they left behind Snake-Eyes, and Hawk allows him and Spirit to go into town to retrieve their comrade. Snake-Eyes, meanwhile, checks out Scarlett's hospital room, where he is ambushed by Slice and Dice. He makes short work of the Cobra ninjas, only to be cornered by dozens of Cobra troopers.

As Megatron is about to insert Biggles-Jones into the protoplasmic stripper, a voice rings out. It's Scarlett, who beckons Megatron to put down the scientist.

Notes

The cover title of the series for this issue is G.I. Joe Starring Snake-Eyes and Transformers: Generation 2. However, the title in the indicia (and hence the legal title) is G.I. Joe A Real American Hero.
Biggles-Jones explains "the whole truth" to Scarlett. While they never get round to revealing it to the readers, the implication is that she's the Department of Defense's spy in Cobra.

Real-life references

Tunnel Rat is noted by Roadblock as paraphrasing a quote by Satchel Paige.

Errors

On page 1, Tunnel Rat is observing Megatron through binoculars. Since Megatron has changed every part of his body but his head, Tunnel Rat doesn't recognize him, and says, "I see [...] a large Decepticon — one I've never seen before!" The problem is that, last issue, Tunnel Rat observed Megatron, passed a message to Hawk, who passed it to Mainframe, who sent it to Bumblebee, who explicitly told Optimus Prime that Megatron is on Earth. So, either A) Tunnel Rat described Megatron's head in enough detail that one of the other people in the communications chain was able to ID him, or B) this is a continuity error.
Tunnel Rat claims to spot Biggles-Jones with Megatron, but she's in the hospital at the moment and nowhere near Megatron.
In one panel, Dice refers to Slice as Dice and Dr. Mindbender calls Dice Slice.
When Zarana wonders what Megatron meant by the "liquid hydrogen" crack, Megatron hears and responds to her from inside the Ark, which is clearly hundreds of yards away (given its size). With his upgraded sensors, yah, he could probably hear her, but he'd have to really yell to respond, and there's no indication he's talking loudly.
Hawk says "the big high muckey-mucks have finally seen fit" to tell G.I. Joe that an intelligence agency has a mole in Cobra. You were talking about it last issue, Hawk! It was how you knew about Cobra being in the town!
The cover says that this issue is, "Continuing the greatest Joes action saga of all time!" Not by a very long shot, bub.
