Early on in the war, Swing and four other Decepticons were drafted into an experimental research project aimed at creating a workable, combat-ready combiner. All of them received new limb-based alternate modes as part of the experiment. Fellow Combicon Ambulon eventually defected to the Autobots and the project was seemingly abandoned. After the end of the war, Ambulon recounted his time with the Combicons to First Aid and noted that that, unlike himself, none of them minded turning into body parts. No Guns, No Swords, No Briefcases
