Talk:Black Arachnia

Before deleting the page, consider this:

I'm not suggesting this page as a simple misspelling - it's not like it's a page for "Balckarachnia" or anything. This is more for casual fans, like myself, who are just starting to learn about the Beast Era and don't know any better.

You hear someone say "Blackarachnia" and your thoughts don't go immediately to a one-word name. We're familiar with a black widow, so "Black Arachnia" seems logical. You come here looking for info, put two words in the search box and get... nothing. Your search is instantly shut down. You're a new fan, you don't know what episodes she might have been in, so you can't search that way. If you're like me, you end up having to search for "spider" and scroll down to #14 before you find what you're after.

So I'm not proposing this redirect as a simple misspelling, but as a misunderstanding of an unusual name. Hopefully you'll at least consider that before axing the page.--207.69.249.87 05:52, 15 April 2007 (UTC)

I'm in agreement that exceedingly common misspellings, particularly those perpetrated by official parties (Mainframe materials have used "Black Arachnia" and "Air Razor" often enough), should redirect to the actual how-its-supposed-to-be-spelled pages. And yes, this means a redirect from shit like "Menasaur", but at least that serves as a "hey, dummy, it's spelled THIS way" and prevents someone from making a new "Menasaur" page for us to go around deleting. --M Sipher 05:57, 15 April 2007 (UTC)
I disgree strongly that the redirect will teach anyone the correct spelling. I don't even notice redirects most of the time. Undoubtedly, people who type "Menasaur" are just going to have their idea of the (mis)spelling reinforced when the correct page immediately pops up. --ItsWalky 08:03, 15 April 2007 (UTC)
Except, of course, that every time the name shows up in the article they'll be seeing it the right way. That's particularly obvious when going from two words to one.--207.69.248.160 08:28, 15 April 2007 (UTC)
I'm gonna have to agree with M Sipher on this one. Exceedingly common misspellings should get redirects. After all, there's a redirect for Teletraan One. - Dark T Zeratul 09:02, 15 April 2007 (UTC)
I also agree. Sometimes, I cannot remember how to spell certain TF names when looking them up, and it is exceedingly frustrating to get a search page with inapplicable results when I type in "Air Razor" instead of "Airazor" (for example). Such re-directs can only serve to ease the browsing of this wiki. --Crockalley 14:35, 15 April 2007 (UTC)
I'd say yes to redirects for the likes of "Black Arachnia" and "Air Razor", and no to redirects for more nonsensical things like "Menasaur." --KilMichaelMcC 17:13, 15 April 2007 (UTC)
I think that if a mispelling appeared in anything offical, there's enough reason to have a redirect, as it was an offical mispelling (this can also include mispellings like Defcon and Teletran One, as most fans didn't have access to offical spellings until years later). Things like Menasaur, Skorpinok, and the like have no reason for redirects, as we've had dorrect spellings since the toys were released. --FortMax 23:01, 15 April 2007 (UTC)
