Talk:Fanon

"Fanon is a so-called "fact" that a fan thinks is true, but for which there is no evidence in any official material. A piece of fanon may be a belief held by just a single fan, or a belief which is widespread due to having been discussed and picked up by other fans."

See, I thought it had to be widespread to qualify as "actual fanon" in the first place... - SanityOrMadness 18:14, 23 April 2008 (UTC)

You'd think. A thing that just one person believes isn't fanon, it's just fanfic. Fanon, to me, implies that there's a general degree of acceptance, or at least knowledge, of the belief. The Raksha-style view of the Decepticons is widespread enough to be fanon. -hx 12:49, 24 April 2008 (UTC)

After looking at the Drift and Squadron X pages, I realized that the Wiki doesn't have a place where "Fanwank" is properly described. I was thinking that this article would be improved by adding the definition, but was wondering what those funnier and wiser than I thought. Should Fanwank go here? Get it's own article? Remain undefined? What? -Gearbox

What exactly is the difference between "fanon" and "personal canon"? - SoundWave 22:32, 19 October 2013 (EDT)

You don't actually read things, do you. --M Sipher 22:58, 19 October 2013 (EDT)
I asked for an answer, not your rudeness. I read both articles, and they seem very similar. Now could someone please answer legitimately? - SoundWave 23:05, 19 October 2013 (EDT)
Personal canon is constructing one's own personal canon: deciding which official stories you consider "true". Fanon is coming up with your own stories to fill in the gaps in official material. They do not overlap whatsoever, and the leads (which you should have read) express this clearly.KrytenKoro 18:23, 5 November 2013 (EST)
What you are calling "fanon" is fan-fiction. TFWiki is describing "fanon" differently. Fanon is a "fact" that is assumed to be true by a good chunk of the fandom, but was not actually stated anywhere in canon. - Gimmick 17:15, 6 November 2013 (EST)
KrytenKoro, you do realize the guy who made that edit is banned now, right? Escargon 17:16, 6 November 2013 (EST)
