Talk:Fixit (RID)
I find it weird that we're using just "RID" for naming character pages and possible other ideas for the 2015 series as well without any another noticeable differences in naming. Any casual viewer of this site could easily confused the 2015 Characters for taking place in the 2001 RID universe (for instance,Optimus Prime (RID) isn't in the 2015 series, but any ignorant user could assume that).-----TransformersMarvel (talk) 10:37, 27 July 2014 (EDT)
- Not if they read the actual articles. The very first line (after the disambiguation template) tells you what continuity the character's from. This situation has already existed, with the two different Universe lines, and we only add the year to the parenthetical when there's separate characters with the same name in both franchises. Also, you don't need to start the same discussion on multiple talk pages. Jalaguy (talk) 10:44, 27 July 2014 (EDT)
- And I consider that a mistake. The disambiguation tag is supposed to tell you which franchise they are from, doing it this way doesn't actually do that. Once a second franchise of the same name exists neither of them can truly be considered to have the unmodified name. Since 2008 there is no such thing as the simple "Universe" franchise, there is "Universe (2003)" and "Universe (2008)" and our tags should reflect that. As of now there is no "RID" franchise, there is "RID (2001) and "RID (2014)". We need to make a change to our standards.--Khajidha (talk) 11:40, 27 July 2014 (EDT)
- Yes. Using RID as parenthetical to mean two completely different things is wrong. --KilMichaelMcC (talk) 11:46, 27 July 2014 (EDT)
- It's been established ad nauseam that disambiguation tags are only here to disambiguate, not provide information. If that were the case, every single page would have a parentheses in its title, but they don't. Mimi (talk) 12:28, 27 July 2014 (EDT)
- I also agree on using a different parenthetical for the new RID series. Taking the Universe line into example, well, nearly all of the characters from Universe (2008) are new forms for previous characters with the only exception of Dropshot, which doesn't really jive with the two RID lines where practically everyone from 2003's RID is disambiguated, and 2014/5's RID is a mixture of old and new characters from Prime. Maybe 2015 RID or Aligned RID? Blackjack (talk) 12:29, 27 July 2014 (EDT)
- Franchise parentheticals ARE supposed to tell us one thing in particular: what franchise the character first appeared in. A simple (Universe) or (RID) tag does not do that. --Khajidha (talk) 21:46, 27 July 2014 (EDT)
- I think my main problem is with the potential for standardization of "RID" as the abbreviation for this new thing in the fandom even beyond this wiki, when "Robots in Disguise" means so many different things now. --KilMichaelMcC (talk) 13:23, 27 July 2014 (EDT)
