I thought the combiners category was only for robots who can combine into a giant gestalt robot, and was specifically *not* for robots with combined altmodes, or whose only robot mode requires combining

The Combiner page specifically says that Micromaster Combiner squads, with their combined altmodes, are a type of combiner. The word was also used on the packaging, I believe. JW 01:42, 6 August 2007 (UTC)

Yep. In fact, the Micromaster Combiners were the very first official use of the term on toy-packaging. (And maybe the first official use ever, though I wouldn't be surprised if it'd shown up in the comic before then.) - Jackpot 06:54, 6 August 2007 (UTC)
