When was Pharma Infected?

[edit]

Not sure if this is a continuity error, but it isn't clear when Pharma was infected by the Red Rust. The story implies it wasn't until he stood in Ratchet's leaky rust during their final confrontation, but if that's the case then why did Pharma refuse to transform into jet mode when Ratchet demanded? If he was uninfected at that time then he should have had no reason not to. Excise 23:09, 26 May 2012 (EDT)

Roberts actually replied to this on the IDW forums, don't have the link handy. He didn't have time to go from the quarantine to his hidey hole to check to see if he was infected or not, and he still had to free Sonic and Boom. So, he didn't want to risk transforming in case he was infected.24.11.110.62 00:10, 27 May 2012 (EDT)
Very neat. If someone has the link to this then it's probably worth it to put it into the Notes section. Excise 15:07, 27 May 2012 (EDT)
You get the virus when you're in contact with the rust. But the infection doesn't start until you transform. --Detour 00:18, 27 May 2012 (EDT)
Right, but the problem is that if Pharma wasn't infected then he could have transformed when Ratchet demanded he do so. The comment above explains Roberts's reasoning. Excise 15:07, 27 May 2012 (EDT)
Again, you get infected by contact. But the symptoms don't start displaying until you transform. They actually go over this early in the issue, Ambulon even points out he is infected, just not displaying the symptoms. --Detour 16:07, 27 May 2012 (EDT)
I realize that, but that is not my point. On page 5, Ratchet tells Pharma to transform. Pharma refuses. Why does he refuse? Per Ratchet, "the symptoms are triggered by reconfiguration... the virus is spread by touch, but lies dormant until the person infected changes shape." Thus, Pharma's refusal implies he was infected. On page 16, Ratchet tells Pharma that "you've been standing in my rust.", to which Pharma freaks out. The realization is that 'now' Pharma is infected. That is the contradiction, and per 24.11.110.62's comment it is resolved by suggesting that on page 5, Pharma wasn't sure if he was infected. On page 16, he could be absolutely certain of it, and thus freaked out. Excise 19:36, 27 May 2012 (EDT)
Yep, that's how it came off to me as well. Not wanting to risk it at first, and then being certain because of Ratchet's rust. --Detour 01:32, 28 May 2012 (EDT)

There's also the bit where he refused to let First Aid touch him and check his wounds. Partially because they were self-inflicted, but also because he didn't want contact with an infected. --Xaaron 08:59, 29 May 2012 (EDT)

Crew Manifest

[edit]

It isn't mentioned in the issue, but wouldn't the twenty or so injured Transformers also have been taken aboard? Excise 15:08, 27 May 2012 (EDT)

This is definitely what I'm thinking. The survivors probably wouldn't be left in the decrepit Delphi now devoid of any medical staff... --Detour 01:33, 28 May 2012 (EDT)
Since the DJD arc is continuing, hopefully it'll be confirmed next issue that the Faders were recovered, too. --Xaaron 08:59, 29 May 2012 (EDT)

Fortress Maximus toys gimmick citation

[edit]

When Fortress kills the other Genericon inserting his head into a compartment of his left shoulder, that might be a refers to a Fortress'toy gimmick, where in that place there is the cockpit of Headmaster Spike. After this sequence, the killing of the first Genericon seems then remember the "transformation" of Cog, the drone of Fort Max and another gimmick of the 1987's toy.
