Does it matter to this article that the model of Optimus Prime's gun is not unique? (Or apparently Megatron's, for that matter.) --Monzo 05:17, 3 October 2007 (UTC)

War For Cybertron

[edit]

Eh, Megatrons model is a soldier, not a leader. Hence, you can't equip the ion blaster by default (Although you can give the Fusion Cannon to Optimus' mold.) However, you could, in theory, pick up an ion blaster from a fallen Leader.

Which toys?

[edit]

Just so I'm clear, are the only toys that should be used as examples on this page ones where the packaging specifically refers to the weapon as an "ion blaster," and not just "blaster" or some other term, even if the weapon is clearly intended to be the ion blaster? -- Servitor 2152 03:33, 6 July 2010 (EDT)

Yeah, some Optimus Primes that belong to other continuity families feature guns similar to G1 Prime's, and are properly meant as a homage. most notably Armada Optimus.

Where do Movie Optimus' rifles come from?

[edit]

UPDATE: Having finally been able to rewatch the warehouse battle in Revenge of the Fallen, Optimus can be seen with both the Ion Blaster and the Barrage Cannon drawn, but his fuel tanks are still on his back. This means his guns don't form from them as previously thought. So where do they even come from? ZTS is Very Sorry 12:42, 31 August 2013 (EDT)

http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=9the6PLLuVc Watch at 1:03 every closely after Megatron deploys his cannon,Optimus' back panels transform and his ion blaster emegres. It is pretty much stored in a compartment his back like his G1 counterpart Hyruk (talk) 08:24, 23 January 2015 (EST)

Origin of the name "ion blaster"

[edit]

Doing a bit of reading up on this, Prime's weapon was just a laser rifle in the Marvel comics, even after his Powermaster upgrade (according to his Universe profile) and the script for "War of the Dinobots", the earliest reference on here, just calls it "Prime's raygun". From what I can tell from searching the term, the earliest references to it online occur around 2004 with the release of the first Masterpiece toy. Does anyone know of any canon sources before that? --Emvee (talk) 12:28, 16 September 2022 (EDT)
