Isn't this usually spelled "Jargua" or "Jaruga"? I've never seen this spelled with the extra "r" on the end.--MCRG 00:47, 3 February 2007 (UTC)

The "ga" at the end of his name is extended, which typically signifies "gar". Or "gaah", but that looks sillier. --M Sipher 01:08, 3 February 2007 (UTC)

Is "Jarugā" a Japanese word or were they intending to give this character an English-language name of Jaguar and perhaps got it a little wrong? If they were trying to give it an English-language name can we cut them a little bit of slack and call him "Jaguar"? (How do they spell "Jaguarbreast"? While they may have had the word "Jaguar" in mind, I think the spelling error was intentional. Ravage's Japanese name was "Jaguar", spelled "ジャガー", while Jarugar's name is spelled "ジャルガー". So I'd say that while "Jarugar" may be derived from the word "Janguar", it's still a funny made-up name like "Rhinox" or "Cheetor" and should be refelcted as such on this wiki. --DrSpengler 12:33, 3 September 2009 (EDT)

When a name (ジャルガー Jarugā) is obviously a riff on "jaguar" (transliterated into Japanese as ジャガー jagā), it is not "presumptuous" to make the name similar to that word. And to answer your question on my talk page, the Madman and Metrodome translations don't count for much. Otherwise, Deathsaurus would be at Deszaras and we would adhering strictly to their sometimes inaccurate episode titles. —Interrobang 11:49, 27 May 2011 (EDT)

Whether or not it's a pretty safe assumption doesn't change the fact that it's an assumption (at least it seemed that way viewed in the out of context manner I mentioned), unless, of course, you know that was the intent. 'Jallguar', provides confirmation of such an intent. I was more freaking out about a sudden change to Jallguar, which out of context seemed bizarre to me, based on what Dr.Spengler had been saying. But, yeah if Madman doesn't count we should probably go with an existing Japanese Romanization, unless there is a solid English version of the character (Deathsaurus is all up in FunPub stuff as Deathsaurus). Well at least until the Shout Factory DVDs come out. I imagine these will have the same dub, but they could easily increase exposure of those spellings of the names enough to warrant using them on the wiki.
