Talk:Joe Kyde
I know we don't list unannounced products, but can we discuss them in talk pages? I'd like to know if Joe was responsible for the mighty Big Daddy redeco we've seen today, possibly based on that idea from the Allspark back in late 2005. It's awesome. --FFN 02:04, 23 December 2007 (UTC)
- No and yes. Discussion is what Allspark, TFW2005, etc. is for. Sorry! --Sntint 11:22, 23 December 2007 (UTC)
Sage2764
[edit]So what exactly was the story here? Kyde was the guy behind that "Sage2764" guy who posted at the Hong Kong discussion group Talk.Transformers (though he ambiguously told me some years ago that he wasn't Sage himself, he just "knew how to get stuff out there"). Things Sage posted:
- March 16 2006: Packaging cross-sell stock photos of Cybertron "Galaxy Force Optimus Prime" (name still unknown at that point; first look at the colors).
- March 22 2006: Packaging photos of Cybertron Nemesis Breaker, Metroplex and Menasor including the bios from the back of the packaging.
- May 11, 2006: Color guide for Cybertron Deluxe Smokescreen, information about the Cybetrron Mudflap redeco being cancelled in favor of a Vector Prime redeco, information about Classics Optimus Prime only being available as a Voyager without a trailer (contrary to previously revealed information from other sources), and his blaster transforming into parts of his vehicle mode.
- May 31 2006: The infamous "Abrams Megatron" color guide hoax (which looks suspiciously like an Eric Siebenaler drawing).
- June 1 2006: Color guide for Classics Deluxe Grimlock.
- August 7 2006: Photos of Cybertron "Galaxy Force Vector Prime" in packaging.
- August 7 2006: Photos of Classics Voyager Megatron (loose).
Supposedly, this was all part of a thesis paper on behalf of Kyde to "disseminate hoax information", and the "Abrams Megatron" thing was the centerpiece of it, with everything else being just there to build up credibility. If that's true... why did he continue to post stuff long after June 31?
Also, does any of that belong on this page? It's briefly touched upon in Movie Barricade's article, because Kyde used "Sage2764" for Recon Barricade's license plate.--Nevermore 05:45, 26 November 2010 (EST)
- IIRC, the entire thing was part of a project (senior thesis, maybe?) for Kyde's design school, with the idea being "see if my original self-created design would be accepted by the most nitpicky diehards of all, the fandom, as an official product." Ergo, "Sage" leaked a bunch of official, but relatively minor things around the false information, just to build and maintain credibility. He posted some things afterwards just to make sure he stayed "legit." I may be mostly wrong, but that's how I remember the story going. -hx 16:03, 21 December 2010 (EST)
Generations
[edit]Looks like we're going to have to update this page pretty soon, huh? -hx 16:03, 21 December 2010 (EST)
- More like as of several months ago, if we had more concrete information. I think he's in charge of Generations, but I'm not entirely sure. --ItsWalky 16:13, 21 December 2010 (EST)
