Move

Just thought I should let you all know, there was a discussion on Discord that suggested we move the page to "List of ID numbers" due to Hasbro having their own numbering system with the current toylines, that way we can document both systems which are pretty different from each other and show off the differences. I am for this change.

Here's an idea. What if we move it to simply "ID number", add an informative intro at the top about what ID numbers are and summarize their role in the history of the brand, making this into a full-blown article unto itself instead just a glorified list page? --Sabrblade (talk) 14:15, 20 August 2021 (EDT)

Something like this as a start:

"ID numbers are a classification system used throughout the Transformers brand to numerically identify each toy sold within a franchise's toyline. Historically, they have been used primarily by TakaraTomy (originally Takara), but Hasbro has been known to use its own systems as well. ID numbers provide a form of "order" to each toyline that uses them, allowing collectors to more easily identify specific figures."

Move continued and fleshing out

So just to reiterate what was said above and on the main page, Hasbro has used ID numbers off and on for years now with things like Alternators and Cyberverse (the DOTM/Prime-era Cyberverse, not the most recent series). The idea we had on Discord was to move this to "List of ID numbers" so that we can include the Hasbro ones in the mix.

If this page starts to get a bit unwieldy, then the other plan is to move this to "List of TakaraTomy ID numbers" and to make a suite with "List of Hasbro ID numbers" split out onto a separate page. As far as I'm aware the page is still alright in terms of length and doesn't cause too much issue, so I think we'll be good including the Hasbro stuff here in the mean time.

As it stands, the other sections are going to need more fleshing out as we've been slowly moving this page to be more informative than just a page full of compiled lists (because We Hate Lists). I started somewhat of a structure (with some tweaking by Nevermore) for the G1 section, but I'm a little bit lost when it comes to most of the other lines listed here, so people with the expertise who can help out on those would be very much appreciated. -- Fanofcoolstuff27 (talk) 08:08, 8 September 2021 (EDT)

Please keep it separate - it's JAPANESE ID numbers and a distinct subset of the overall ID Numbers. Link to it from a Hasbro ID Numers page, sure.

And while we're on the subject..... PLEASE can we go back to the older table format which was much easier to use and look at? Yes I get it consumed space, but the layout worked. --Payres (talk) 10:10, 04 October 2021 (BST)
