Talk:Long Haul (ROTF)
Is the fact that Long Haul was originally fanart that became real when the artist was hired for the movie worth noting?--75.181.157.99 18:50, 19 April 2009 (EDT)
- And about that, would it be legit to post that art on that page now?--GUIGUI 17:45, 28 April 2009 (EDT)
I'm a little confused by the scene in the movie where Long Haul becomes part of Devastator - you can see him pull up on the ridge above the others alongside Rampage, but then you see the green truck next to Simmons and Leo transform and they were at ground level. Can anyone clear up what happened for me, please? It's unlikely that two of him became part of the big guy, so did the one next to the humans take on robot mode instead? Tarrn 05:38, 29 June 2009 (EDT)
- Probably a continuity error, because I noticed the dump truck moving as Simmons and Leo started to back away from the construction vehicles. --FFN 06:43, 29 June 2009 (EDT)
- The green dump truck next to Simmons and leo actually appears briefly before the sequence where all the other constructictons pull up and prepare to transform.

- I'm gonna assume the reason most people have forgotten about this, is because all of the youtube clips of Devastator's transformation begin shortly after these shots. Regardless, I believe the current write-up for the Studio Series Long Haul toy - as well as the page for the second, yellow dump truck - should be altered. Because SS Long Haul clearly takes its alt mode from this green dump truck, not the yellow dump truck. --CyclonatorZ 13:45, 18 July 2020 (CDT)
Should it be added that Long Haul is a Caterpillar 797b Dump Truck? JamesCGamora 07:10, 3 July 2009 (EDT)
- If you're sure that's the right truck used in the movie (and that the toys are an approximation of it), you may want to remark upon it at the beginning of his Voyager class toy section. --FFN 08:50, 3 July 2009 (EDT)
- I am about 98% sure that it is. The "concept" art made by Josh Nizzi prior to him being hiring as concept artist for RotF has a reference picture of a Caterpillar 797b Dump Truck as his alt form JamesCGamora 04:59, 4 July 2009 (EDT)
Two of Him
[edit]So, during the big fight, Long Haul is in two places at once. We can handle this in a few ways:
- Treat it as an "animation error".
- Treat them as two separate characters who happen to look the same.
- Make up some non-canon explanation involving time travel, so that Long Haul is in fact in two places at once. (No, I'm not serious about this one.)
If it's the second choice, then maybe we should split this page into Long Haul (ROTF) and "Unnamed Long Haul lookalike". If it's the first choice we should call it an error. (The problem being, the reality is that the filmmakers said something like, "We want to show Long Haul's robot form, and we don't care that it makes no sense." Maybe we need an article on "Continuity apathy" for all the times the creators don't care enough . . .) JW 10:56, 17 July 2009 (EDT)
- I think a "Continuity apathy" page would be much better suited to our needs. For example, both Rampages share the page Rampage (ROTF), even though the Constructicon (ROTF) page has two seperate links right next to eachother that lead to the same page for these character(s). I don't think we need another.
However, in the case of the Buffalo MPV Decepticon, because the character was outright killed in the previous movie it deserves a seperate page. Gearshift 11:03, 17 July 2009 (EDT)
- I think the Buffalo MPV Decepticon is a special case since he isn't a Constructicon. Constructicons seem to have this unexplained phenomena where there can be multiple of them. Regular Decepticons haven't really displayed this yet. Plus, an argument can be made that Bonecrusher didn't die.
- That is a good term, Continuity Apathy. I think the wiki should share the same level of Continuity Apathy as the movie in describing the Constructions, so just saying there are two of them is enough. - Starfield 11:12, 17 July 2009 (EDT)
- Just stating two of them is enough? That would mean merging the pages of Blackout and Grindor and just mentioning there are 2 of them and merging Scavenger and Demolishors page and state ther are 2 of them. Interesting to note that the 2 Long Hauls have a diffirent size. The 'loose' Long Haul is a lot bigger and is a bigger type of truck (CAT 797) then the smaller combining Long Haul (CAT 773). The 773 is roughly the size of the alternate mode of Rampage. The 797 is a lot bigger and the 'loose' Long Haul is seen as a huge robot compared to other Decepticons. Definetly bigger then Rampage. It is also questionable whether the combining vehicles actually have robot modes. We never see there robot modes so it is possible that Devastator is a single robot composed of diffirent vehicles. This is suppoted by the Supreme toy which has no induvidual robot modes. Another Scrapper, Mixmaster and Rampage are also seperate. The Rampage has a diffirent color but the other Scrapper and Mixmaster look identical. I think it is not strange to have multiple robots that look alike. Grindor is pretty much a copy of Blackout, both have diffirent names so it is logical that if the combiners are seperate Transformers that they would have diffirent names. Isn't the combining Demolishor called Scavenger? Then I think the other combiners should have been given diffirent names. So far the other characters which has a look-alike (Scrapper, Mixmaster, Long Haul (diffirent size), Rampage (diffirent color) did not receive diffirent names although we know that the red bulldozer is the real Rampage because Starscream calls him by name. But I'm getting a bit off-topic. The only ones not having a look-alike are Hightower and Overload. Since the loose Rampage is called by name and the combiners might not even have robot modes I think we can asume that the loose guys are the 'real' Scrapper, Long Haul and Mixmaster. I am not sure there should be seperate pages for Devastator components because it is not sure if these actually are characters instead of just body parts for Devastator. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 84.105.181.214 (talk • contribs){{#if:| {{{2}}}|}}.
- No it doesn't. Frankly we just don't care to give Long Haul two articles just because a protoform lands in Egypt and assumes his body-type. And the toy bios are just as canon as the film because the nature of the multiverse means everything is. Alientraveller 12:18, 18 August 2010 (EDT)
I belive that he is one robot and the Devastator leg 'bot is a non-sentinel clone that shares the same vehicle mode..and that Hasbro just used the "Long Haul transforms with the others to form Devastator" crap to make some greenbacks.-User:DinoDigger974:29 3 April 2011

Voyager toy
[edit]The description for the Voyager-class toy says the figure has clear light-piping that is rendered useless by the "overhead" stuff. I've only seen figures that have red painted over (what I assume is) clear light-piping, which would render it useless anyway. The pic attached to the description also features the red eyes. Was the clear light-pipe an early thing (like being packaged in alt mode), maybe a Takara/Hasbro difference, or is it just a simple clarity issue/mistake? I don't want to correct it without knowing and add errors where they didn't exist previously. Lukeblast 12:28, 24 October 2009 (EDT)
Packaging
[edit]Is there any proof Long Hauls being packaged in vehicle mode rather than robot, or is this just something that someone said they once saw? If there's nothing behind it, we should remove it from the page—if it's true, we should add a comparison picture of the two styles. --Buttbutt 21:50, 21 November 2009 (EST)
