Just because it will amuse anyone who's wound up here... Well, here's this thing.

Samuel Clemens?

[edit]

Does anyone else think this page should renamed/moved to "Samuel Clemens," and the respective redirect be from Mark Twain to Samuel Clemens, instead of vice versa as it is now?
Here's my rationale... This page is not in reference to the author of the Great American Novel (i.e. Mark Twain). This page is in reference to the man who bitch-slapped a steam-powered 19th century Ravage (i.e. Samuel Clemens) --Starcrunch 15:36, 1 October 2007 (UTC)

But they never actually call him Samuel Clemens. The only reason the article does so is because it's a humor set-up. All things being equal, his "real name" should be removed. --ItsWalky 15:47, 1 October 2007 (UTC)
Actually, he's called "Mr. Clemens" in at least one place in the book. I'll double check to see what the preponderance of usage in the actual text is. JW 15:53, 1 October 2007 (UTC)
He's referred to as "Mr. Twain" half a dozen times, "Mr. Clemens" once, and "Samuel Clemens" once. So, I say we should stick with "Mark Twain." JW 11:48, 3 October 2007 (UTC)
Agreed. "Mark Twain" it is. I hope I didn't stir things up, or step on anyone's toes by suggesting the change. --Starcrunch 16:42, 3 October 2007 (UTC)
Suggesting a change on the appropriate talk page is always allowed and appreciated. (I mean, unless the suggested change is the stupidest thing ever. This one wasn't even close.) No toes stepped upon. JW 17:06, 3 October 2007 (UTC)

DEFAULTSORT

[edit]

I used {{DEFAULTSORT:Mark Twain}} on purpose. My reasoning is that Mark Twain is a pen name not based on a name but on a riverboat jargon, "Mark Twain" being a safe water depth. So sorting it by "Twain, Mark" is like sorting Blast Off by "Off, Blast". That was my reasoning anyway. - Starfield 20:07, 6 April 2009 (EDT)

Um, you don't use defaultsort when the it's the same as title. And it being based on a marine term doesn't stop it from being a given name/surname combo. We don't take this weird policy when it comes to pen and stage names, do we? —Interrobang 20:41, 6 April 2009 (EDT)
I guess he is called Mr. Twain in the story. - Starfield 20:53, 6 April 2009 (EDT)

citations

[edit]

We need a citation needed for Verification that Mark Twain never defeated a giant metal jaguar? Maybe it can be moved to the part where he never met Jules Verne.

Wooooooosh, there goes the joke flying right over your head.98.209.73.178 20:21, 12 October 2010 (EDT)
