Regarding deletion
[edit]I feel that new readers might make the same mistake as older readers so I'm against sending Not Carnivac to the memory hole for that reason principally. Additionally it's not unknown for TF developers to draw inspiration from obscure corners of this wiki so I'm doubly against it if deleting it lessens the chances of a new Carnivac with the potential of a redeco in Not Carnivac's colors as a new character inspired by his brief appearance --Emvee (talk) 21:05, 13 March 2025 (EDT)
- I don't think it's our mandate to create new pages in the hopes Hasbro will make toys of generics. A note on the issue's page should clarify this guy fine enough if reader misunderstanding is a concern. Saix (talk) 21:34, 13 March 2025 (EDT)
- I looked into this some more, here's Josh Perez confirming it isn't Carnivac but he doesn't say who it originally was supposed to be- https://www.deviantart.com/dyemooch/art/TF-Drift-1-pg-3-178550759
- There was a big hullabaloo on the IDW forums when that issue hit (I admit I was part of it and even did a parody rewrite of those pages) because people thought McCarthy was killing Carnivac (a similar Decepticon defector-type character) to puff up Drift. As for keeping this page... eh, I could go either way. He's only a significant generic because of the real world stir he caused, and with the IDW forums gone, most of the actual context is gone with it. I think I lean more towards Saix's take on it. Maybe tweak the note on the Drift # 1 page Nu-Priest (talk) 22:19, 13 March 2025 (EDT)
- Sounds like the misunderstanding was not really a thing outside the IDW forums, which haven't been relevant for more than a decade. We don't need to accommodate every wrong opinion that pops up online. Saix (talk) 00:37, 14 March 2025 (EDT)
- Yeah I'm not really seeing the need for this one. It's not like it's even funny. --M Sipher (talk) 17:37, 14 March 2025 (EDT)
- Several months late, I know, but since the deletion tag is still on the page, I just want to throw my two cents in that this is hardly the first extremely minor generic character to get their own page on the wiki, and even if it gets deleted I'm certain it won't be the last. Even if the "not Carnivac" bits are a bit heavy-handed, I don't really see a reason to delete the page entirely. -- Dark T Zeratul (talk) 00:08, 22 September 2025 (EDT)
- Also throwing a late hat into the ring, I really don't see the harm in having this page when we have plenty of other "basically a footnote" character pages. Near identically is Not Chromia, another bot who barely does anything but happens to look like someone else.
More anecdotally, my friends and I found this page when looking up Carnivac back when the AOTP toy was revealed. We thought it was hilarious that such a character exists, so you never know when someone will stumble upon and enjoy a bit of wacky Transformers history/trivia. —BluJayWarrior (talk) 13:20, 12 November 2025 (EST)
