Isn't the industry term "paint operaton"?--Nevermore 08:08, 10 June 2009 (EDT)
- Paint operation, yeah. Do we have that in print anywhere? Hooper_X 08:27, 10 June 2009 (EDT)
- Already used on the Wiki here, official Hasbro use here.--Nevermore 11:07, 10 June 2009 (EDT)
- Then as far as I care, move and redirect, but you may want to wait for some other people to concur. Hooper_X 14:47, 10 June 2009 (EDT)
- A year and change after the fact, but THANK you wiki-folk for having this at the correct industry standard term. I've had so many arguments with people about this being the "real" term, and being disbelieved. This site is GREAT for its objectivity. Just sayin' --Destrongerlupus 16:31, 16 September 2011 (EDT)
Merge with paint mask
[edit]Should this article be merged with the paint mask article? The two concepts are intimately related and there really isn't much to be said about one that wouldn't cover much of the other. Mock up made at my sandbox. --Khajidha 14:29, 2 July 2010 (EDT)
- I'm voting towards a merge. --Ascendron 14:32, 14 July 2010 (EDT)

[edit]... that's... not really true. The frequency, I mean. Most of the UT redecos use new masks. --M Sipher 22:36, 20 October 2006 (UTC)
- I believe Kyde has said that it doesn't cost anything extra at all to come up with new masks. It just takes more time for the designer to come up with them. --ItsWalky 22:40, 20 October 2006 (UTC)
- Okay, well, actually, I have to defer to Kyde, since he works for Hasbro and I work for a forge shop. :) But there is more than designer time involved...somebody has to make the mask itself, and tooling like that is never cheap in the you-and-me sense. Heck, design time isn't cheap either. Hmm...there's a place in this town that actually makes masks. Perhaps I will do some research. But anyway, "negligible" is a good word to use here...let's say it costs $5000 for a set of masks (which it very well might), including design time, tooling cost, and getting them set up for production. That's not exactly pocket change, but over a long production run it's definitely negligible. However, it might be too much for a non-main line like Universe, for instance.
The main reason I put this stuff in there is that I have seen fans criticizing the 'laziness' of reusing masks more than a few times, and I thought some explanation would be needed. But I should look into it more. --Autobus Prime
