"Powa" or "Power"

[edit]

Here's my argument:

  • If you put "パワ" into literally any translation software, it comes out as "power", not "pawa".
  • The name is an abbreviated version of "パワフルプロ" ("Pawafurupuro"), a transliterated version of "powerful pro". Remove the "フル" (furu), and you get "パワプロ" (Pawapuro). Removing the "ful" from "powerful" doesn't remove the R; it's intended to be there because it's a transliteration of an English word. And they're not going to add an extra character because that defeats the purpose of abbreviating it, but the intention is still there.
  • Konami's official translation of "パワプロ" is "Power Pro".
  • If we're going to be beholden to the Japanese name, it should be "Pawapuro-kun". "Power Pro-kun" is a weird half-step that straddles the line between the two interpretations and ultimately serves no one.

In short, Power Pro-Kun is the name that makes the most sense in all respects. -- Cyberlink420 (talk) 02:06, 6 April 2019 (EDT)
