Member continuity

[edit]

So, if all the Vanguards members come from the Precursor World, does that make them all G1 incarnations (pre-G1 but you get the point) who should have their own pages? Since Omega Sentinel is actually not the Energon incarnation dimension hopping? How should we do this? Also, shouldn't we have a full roster? At least on the Order's individual page?- TransFormersfan1 (talk) 12:49, 12 April 2021 (EDT)

Absolutely not on having pages that will be two paragraphs long just for describing characters that show up in the background for a bit to die. Escargon (talk) 13:03, 12 April 2021 (EDT)
Isn't that our policy though? We have dozens of pages about hi-and-die characters, (take G1 Skidmark, who appears just to die but because he's a G1 incarnation he has his own page, or all the Wreckers in Prime who get namedropped as being dead like Impactor or Pyro). With the exception of the Thirteen (who were multiversal singularities once) and RiD2001 (who are G1 characters in Japan), if a character shows up in a different franchise, even as a hie-and-die cameo, we give them a new page. At least, that's how I understand it. TransFormersfan1 (talk) 13:29, 12 April 2021 (EDT)
Skidmark and Pyro at least did a bit more than just appear to die; they had a vague level of backstory. Almost none of the Vanguard guys appear for more than a panel. Escargon (talk) 13:34, 12 April 2021 (EDT)
I'll be honest, I think appearing on-screen as part of an organization is equal to being namedropped as being a dead member of one. I'd say Omega Sentinel for example appears in multiple comics at this point, even if he isn't a fleshed out character, but he's got more content than say, Prime Rotorstorm. I would like to note I am in favor of keeping them on their original pages (both for being some of the only appearances of these characters, but just so we don't have dozens of new pages with so little content), but I honestly don't see how it's consistent with how it's been done up until now. TransFormersfan1 (talk) 13:39, 12 April 2021 (EDT)
The seven universes that comprised the Precursor multiverse could maybe not be G1 continuities? Technically? I think by universal stream rules they would be Primax streams, but I think maybe there's wiggle room for the sake of editing? TransFormersfan1 (talk) 13:50, 12 April 2021 (EDT)
Or it could just simply be that they're those characters and we don't create a few hundred pages for nobodies. Escargon (talk) 22:36, 12 April 2021 (EDT)
Hey there! One of the leads on Selects comic coverage here. A couple things:
  • First of all we do already provide full rosters, that's what the galleries under the "Member" tabs on each Order page are about, you can see an example here.
  • Second, I would really caution holding off on proposing any wide reaching changes to Precursor World coverage until full processing of the final chapter of Selects is complete considering the implications for the continuity therein.
  • Third, for a project of this scale I would really encourage you to raise this discussion in either the discord or the community portal rather than an individual talk page.
If you still feel an overhaul is necessary after the finale has filtered through the existing coverage we'd be happy to discuss it with you there. Hope this helped! -AzimuthAcolyte (talk) 00:18, 13 April 2021 (EDT)

It did, thank you! No idea how I missed the members tab, didn't even look for it, totally on me. You're right, I will go to the Discord, I just wanted to make sure the topic was being discussed.TransFormersfan1 (talk) 11:15, 13 April 2021 (EDT)

Just to circle back on this, the solution we ultimately arrived at was treating the Precursor World as a sort of cross-continuity "virtual franchise," making a cameo there roughly akin to popping up in Universe 03 or something. What this means in practical terms is that if you click through for a minor character on the member galleries you will now be directed to a "Precursor World" header at the character page of the toy's original incarnation with either a short bio or a flag where one should be with a link to the relevant fiction. We'd appreciate any help we can get filling them out, there are a lot of Blue and White Order randos! -AzimuthAcolyte (talk) 01:50, 11 July 2021 (EDT)

Individual organization names

[edit]

With the fact that the black group is the "Black Parade", I really think the others should be moved to more generic titles ("Yellow Primus Vanguard organization" or whatever), to avoid people taking those as "official names" when we were just going off n=1 ("Blue Order"), which doesn't follow that now we have n=2 and there isn't a pattern there. Saix (talk) 13:01, 8 November 2023 (EST)

Given we already have noname templates on the lot of them this feels like overkill that would make the coverage actively more difficult to parse when propagated into fiction sections and the like. --AzimuthAcolyte (talk) 13:15, 8 November 2023 (EST)
I don't think the templates are a good enough warning (especially when it's put on the same level as SG characters who just never got their obvious names said), and it's not really difficult to write out generic descriptors ("Red Sentinel Prime's organization", "the yellow group", etc.) in writeups. Saix (talk) 13:21, 8 November 2023 (EST)
In the meantime I've changed the specific template anyway. Saix (talk) 13:24, 8 November 2023 (EST)
I think it is also worth keeping in mind that the name "Black Parade" stems from Cloud fiction and is thus not necessarily indicative of trends in Precursor World stories going forward. That said I can live with the template update. --AzimuthAcolyte (talk) 13:35, 8 November 2023 (EST)
It's from a card released after Selects that details Deadlock joining up with Go Prime, though? It's not really "Cloud fiction" (and the group Lockdown heads is "Ebony", so there's no confusion there). Saix (talk) 13:48, 8 November 2023 (EST)

No, I'm firmly against this. I don't care if it might be inaccurate; "Yellow Primus Vanguard organization" is so unpleasantly clunky that I cannot conscience its use. --Riptide (talk) 14:42, 8 November 2023 (EST)

It's an example. Truncate it to "Yellow organization" or a synonym you like better. Whatever doesn't put us in the business of completely making up names. Saix (talk) 15:13, 8 November 2023 (EST)
What's to stop people from taking any other placeholder name we come up with as official? To the layman not in the know, "Yellow organization"/"Yellow team"/"Yellow group"/etc. looks about as legit as "Yellow Order" does. Or would you prefer we simply lowercase the O in "Order"? --Sabrblade (talk) 15:25, 8 November 2023 (EST)
Forgot about this, but decapitalizing "Order" would be better than nothing. Saix (talk) 18:56, 16 November 2023 (EST)
