Talk:Rainmaker

I didn't see any discussion on any of the talk pages about this, so I'll bring it up here even though I'm sure there will be some gnashing of teeth.

But here's my argument. The Seekers from MTMTE 1 are now in toy form dubbed Rainmakers. Is there any reason we can't slot them in here somewhere?

I know, color schemes aren't consistent, but that's not really a big deal, especially where the G1 cartoon is concerned and Acid Storm has a different color layout every time anyway.

I also know it's been stated before that Sunstorm wasn't the yellow guy, but could we argue this is a case of Authorial Intent and New Fiction Trumps Old Fiction?

The thing is, these guys are Rainmakers according to the new toys, so we either say there's two different squads running around G1 with the name name or that these are the same guys (save for Hot Link who was apparently out that day.)

It could also be argued that they aren't the guys from Divide and Conquer, but The Rainmakers are simply a larger squad with six members. What does anyone think?Riddlerj 10:46, 5 September 2013 (EDT)

But there hasn't been any new fiction that depicts Sunstorm as the same guy as the yellow "Divide and Conquer" Rainmaker. It's not too difficult to believe that the Rainmakers have both a yellow guy and a gold guy among their ranks. --Sabrblade 11:23, 5 September 2013 (EDT)
We've had, IIRC, comment from Fun Pub people that the pack being named 'Rainmakers' wasn't ever the intent and it wound up inadvertently happening somehow. So the people who made the set never intended to make them part of this existing team, for what it's worth... Jalaguy 11:25, 5 September 2013 (EDT)
The "Rainmakers" description on the toy bag and in the program was an error. They are not Rainmakers. --ItsWalky 11:32, 5 September 2013 (EDT)
The package says what it says. The BotCon guys aren't the D&C guys, but they are now Rainmakers. You could even argue that this makes Rainmaker the term for non-Conehead Seekers, but I wouldn't take it that far. --Khajidha 11:36, 5 September 2013 (EDT)
There's no reason for us to take what has been explicitly stated as an error by the people who made it as a fact. I mean, Minerva's packaging says Minelba on it, but we don't blindly say "oh yes, that must be her proper name". Jalaguy 13:46, 5 September 2013 (EDT)
Well then, did either the comic or a Funpub statement say what the team should be called? (IDK, haven't read it yet) All 3 of their pages still call their toys the "Rainmaker Set", so even adding the note "They're only called Rainmakers by mistake" won't dislodge that from people's minds. If Minerva hadn't been named anywhere other than here packaging, her name would effectively be Minelba, right? And even if authorial intent does give us a name, would it be official enough to trump "Rainmakers" by this wiki's standards? Bumblevivisector 14:09, 5 September 2013 (EDT)
I have no issue with declaring it an all out mistake, but it definitely should still be mentioned on this page. People who don't know will see the term on those toys and look it up, coming to this page. The link on the Botcon 2013 page actually takes you here which is how I noticed this.Riddlerj 14:30, 5 September 2013 (EDT)
They don't have to have a correct name. They can just be 'those three guys from MTMTE Pt 1, just like they have been for the last 29 years. This is just my opinion, but taking something where the people who actually made it have said "no, that shouldn't have been there, it's wrong" and treating it as fact and redefining a bunch of characters because of it seems incredibly silly. By all means note the error here, but we shouldn't be listing the 'welcoming committee' as new Rainmakers, IMO. Jalaguy 14:32, 5 September 2013 (EDT)
We'll need to note this on the individual pages and the BotCon 2013 page as well.--Khajidha 18:30, 5 September 2013 (EDT)

Siege Caption

[edit]

Can I a caption for the Siege toys? I wanted to put in a joke. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Skywarp Prime (talkcontribs){{#if:| {{{2}}}|}}.

Seige boxset occasionally packaged out of order

[edit]

My instance of the set came with Acid Storm and Nova Storm swapped around in the packaging and searching around on google images you can find a couple other instances of this mispacking on listings, as well as when they put it on display at SDCC2019 https://news.tfw2005.com/2019/07/19/san-diego-comic-con-2019-siege-rainmakers-3-pack-micromaster-10-pack-images-392454

Is this evidently not unique packaging error worth mentioning in the section on it?
