Talk:Saberback (BW)

Use of magic

[edit]

So typical of a Spengler contribution to the wiki back in the day, he'd take small quotes or one-time things from an episode of an anime or a manga and construct a whole made up intro summary for Japanese character articles, meaning that the majority of the writing is fanfic, more than truth.

The only time I can find Saberback even remotely mention using "magic" was the second episode of the BWN cartoon and I don't think it was meant to be taken so literally.

To quote the episode via Karyuudo's translations:

Saberback: "Magmatron-sama, did you see it? When I used my magic, the Cybertrons saw an illusory God, ...then they got frightened and fell down to the planet, just as you saw."
Sling: "Incredible! Incredible! Just when did you learn such magic?!"
Guiledart: "Saberback, the only magic you can do is to change yourself into a flower, isn't it?"
Saberback: "What?!"

As shown in the above quote, it's just Saberback bragging to the Predacons about how he was able to use the Angolmois Energy to create illusions (which I'm pretty sure was something that Angolmois Energy was already known to do in BWII anyway), by "bring[ing] people's thoughts into reality". He also mentions later in the episode that Angolmois Energy has the power to make one a God, which he showcases in the episode by tricking the people of Godbless to give him their oil made from oranges and by creating the made up Maximal God.

Other than this one time, I can't see any mention of him using magic anywhere. And that was from checking his toy bio, the TV Magazine and BWN Encyclopedia bios, and the manga. If I was any good at writing article intros, I would look into doing it myself, but I'm not, so just leaving this evidence here for whoever wants to take a stab at rewriting the intro before it influences future TF media. -- Fanofcoolstuff27 (talk) 21:57, 23 March 2022 (EDT)

UPDATE: I should have paid closer attention to the subsequent lines of dialogue because Saberback openly admits he was lying about having "magic" lol.
Magmatron: "Before, I received a message from Galvatron. He told me that the Angolmois energy has infinite possibilities. He also said it has a mysterious power as well."
Saberback: "True to your title, Magmatron-sama, you see through anything. It seems the Angolmois capsule has the power to make people's thoughts into reality. The figure of God whom the Godbless residents imagine, created this satellite, ...and the figure which the Cybertrons imagine, created that of a God who looks like a Convoy."
So there you have it. Also, just for context, the "satellite" he refers to was a mountain that was raised into the air by the power of Angolmois Energy. -- Fanofcoolstuff27 (talk) 23:55, 23 March 2022 (EDT)

This is a tendency I'm seeing a lot of lately, and I'm not fond of it; we really don't need whole "subnote" sections when one bullet point or one with indented points under it will easily suffice for the information given. Escargon (talk) 22:06, 24 March 2022 (EDT)
