Covenant of Primus artwork?

So according to Mark Maher’s design notes for AOTP, the T-Cog storing in Amalgamous Prime’s head is a reference to Ken Christiansen’s artwork in Transformers: The Covenant of Primus. That’s news to me. Is that known? Is that just Mark’s interpretation of the art? How long has that been a thing? Frankly, that art of Amalgamous is difficult to decipher.
