Model Numbers
[edit]apologies if i'm doing this wrong - but how can we get the model numbers reinstated onto the wiki pages here? that information is rather valuable, and should be on the main collection pages like this. please advise... =) —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Fronkinsteen (talk • contribs){{#if:| {{{2}}}|}}.
- The ID numbers are on List of Japanese ID numbers. I'm not sure they need to be on the individual toyline pages as well - the more info we include on those, the messier they look, IMHO. Welcome to the Wiki though! --abates (talk) 16:50, 3 March 2017 (EST)
- Stop asking this on every talk page. Saix (talk) 17:06, 3 March 2017 (EST)
=> Abates - thank you for that page link! I'll definitely save it for future reference... =)
=> Saix - my sincerest apologies, I was only trying to point out the pages which I was concerned about, since they were being stripped of useful information (I definitely did not mean to violate any community rules or etiquette)...
As a longtime user of twiki, I've been deeply grateful for the wealth of information collected here, and refer to the pages here quite frequently. However, recently I've been noticing several page overhauls which have significantly reduced the quality of the pages, particularly with regards to the presentation (layout/formatting), and also removal of valuable information (ie - the model #'s being stripped). I agree that too much information can clutter things, but model #'s are typically only 2-5 characters long and can serve well to organize lists and provide a look of uniformity to them (not to mention being an inherent key piece of ID information for a figure, especially for collectors).
This page ("Transformers Unite Warriors") is a perfect example of all this - compare the January 18, 2017 edit to the current version (1/24/17), and judge for yourselves which is better organized. IMHO, the current version with the 4-column table view is a jumbled mess (and this is while viewed on a computer monitor; it doesn't look any better on mobile devices), and actually has LESS information (no model numbers). The previous iteration is a simple straight-down list which looks much cleaner, which makes it easy to scan downwards and compare dates, model #'s, etc.
Similarly for the "Transformers United" page - compare the previous list version from August 15, 2016 to the later edits, it's not hard to see which one is a much better layout (and *with* model #'s included!). Same with the "Transformers Legends (franchise)", "Henkei! Henkei! Transformers (toyline)", and "Robotmasters (franchise)" pages - in each case, the list versions look significantly cleaner, with model #'s serving to help organize and provide a uniform look (these are all Japanese toylines where the model #s are particularly helpful to foreign collectors). The only cost is slightly more vertical scrolling, but none of these toylines have so many figures that it's more than a few extra lines anyway. Honestly, I think these pages would've been better off with just the cool new mini insignia icons added, but left in straight list layout with model #'s intact. (I realize that you can follow the individual character links to find out their model numbers, but it's much more convenient to have them all collected & organized on the main toyline pages like they were previously.)
After noticing more & more pages being stripped of model #'s, I finally created an account today and sought to help out - I'm sorry if I offended anyone with my actions. I see that most of the admins are old-timers, and I certainly don't mean to step on anyone's toes. Just thought it might help to provide you guys with an outside viewpoint, from somebody who uses these pages all the time for the information contained within, who happened to notice some changes for the worse.
Anyway, I did reach out to "M Sipher" (who did most of the reformatting edits and removal of the model #'s) and received a simple "No." so I guess I won't push this issue any further. I can stick to making simple corrections here and there, and just appreciate the wiki for what it has to offer. Thanks... :)
Update (2 years later): THANK YOU for reinstating the model numbers!!! I see they were restored on the Legends and Henkei pages too, so I went ahead and fixed the United and Robotmasters pages as well... =)
