Talk:Universal Peace Alliance
Move
[edit]"Galactic" is a mistranslation. The original word used is 宇宙 (Uchū), which means "Space", "Universe", "Cosmos", etc., so the correct translation should be something to the effect of "Space", "Universal", "Cosmic", etc. "Galactic" would work if the original word was instead 銀河 (Ginga), meaning "Galaxy". But it isn't. The use of "Galactic" (and even "galaxy") for 宇宙 (Uchū) came from TV-Nihon's fansubs, which were used as the basis for the subtitles used by both Metrodome and Madman. The same is true for "Galactic Defense Force Headquarters". Checking the Omni Productions dub of Episode 1, that version gives no formal name for the alliance (instead merely mentioning a "united front" that the Autobots and their allies have formed) but DOES actually accurately translate the defense force as "Space Defense Force" (I haven't checked any other episodes of the Omni dub to compare, but that doesn't seem necessary). The point is, since the name is incorrect, we really should move both this page and the one for the headquarters to one that uses either "Space", "Universal", "Cosmic", or some other synonym, instead of "Galactic", since 宇宙 (Uchū) and 銀河 (Ginga) are not the same word and do not have the same meaning. If they had wanted to use 銀河 (Ginga), they would have, but they chose to use 宇宙 (Uchū) instead. --Sabrblade (talk) 22:01, 14 November 2023 (EST)
