- No, you are/were correct. "Tyrannosaurus" is pronounced "Ti-ra-no-za-u-ru-su", for instance. What made you think you were wrong?--Apcog 21:17, 9 December 2007 (UTC)
- Really? Japanese Wikipedia gives the Katakana as ティラノサウルス・レックス, which is why I thought I was incorrect. I assume there's variation in transliteration? Interrobang 22:00, 9 December 2007 (UTC)
- I looked up ザウルス on the Japanese Wikipedia, and according to the first line of text, サウルス is now currently used almost exclusively. Apparently, it's simply replaced ザウルス as the accepted transliteration of the Latin suffix. I have no idea when this transition occurred. If you look up various -saurus dinosaurs in kana, サウルス definitely holds the majority, although the results for the two variants on "stegosaurus" are more evenly split, indicating there's still plenty of examples of the old version still persisting.--Apcog 23:38, 9 December 2007 (UTC)

- Sorry to muddy the waters more. I also noticed I poorly phrased my last reply a bit, so I've edited it for clarity. Basically, ザウルス was correct and seems to be still used in some quarters, but サウルス is the new officially correct transliteration.--Apcog 00:09, 10 December 2007 (UTC)
