Thunderclash is a Decepticon-allied Mini-Con from the Armada portion of the Unicron Trilogy continuity family.
I'm a better Swindle than Swindle is!

A greasy, amoral smooth-talking weasel, Thunderclash has somehow managed to lie, cheat and swindle his way into a position where many larger and more powerful Decepticons actually owe him... or at least fear that he may blackmail them, so they do what he wants. Utterly self-interested, Thunderclash doesn't do anything unless he can see a way to personally profit from it. Some say he started the rumors that his occasional partner Skywarp is only in the position he is thanks to a healthy dose of nepotism. Needless to say, Skywarp hates Thunderclash's guts, but can't do a whole lot about it... yet.<ref>Thunderclash's profile in More than Meets the Eye: Transformers: Armada #3</ref>

An alternate-universe incarnation of Thunderclash serves the will of Unicron via the herald Ramjet. This version of Thunderclash has no free will whatsoever, being a near-mindless thrall.

Cybertron comic

[edit]

Thunderclash came with Ramjet when he and Nemesis Prime traveled to Cybertron to destroy Primus. Their first move was to break into the Vector Sigma chamber and neutralize both the supercomputer and Alpha Trion. Balancing Act Thunderclash and Thunderwing later discovered Dark Scorponok attacking people in search of fuel, and used his hunger to their advantage by pointing him towards their opponents at the Kalis Primary Energon Reserves Control. Balancing Act, Part 3 When Vector Prime showed up to put a stop to their plans, Thunderclash and Ramjet's other Mini-Con minions powerlinxed with their master for his duel with the guardian of time. Balancing Act, Pt 5 Ramjet ultimately lost the battle and was blown into a portal where he and his Mini-Cons would be trapped forever. Thunderclash attempted to fly to safety, but began crumbling to pieces like his dark master and was most likely sucked into the portal with him.. Revelations Part 1

Toys

Armada

[edit]
He looks like he should be shooting down the Boss Galaga.
  • Skywarp with Thunderclash (Max-Con Class, 2003)
Available only with his larger partner Armada Skywarp, Thunderclash transforms into a Cybertronic gunship. As a Mini-Con, he has a "Powerlinx" socket on the underside of his nosecone which allows him to attach to any toy with a "Powerlinx" style 5 mm post; some toys have special Powerlinx posts that activate/unlock gimmicks when a Mini-Con is attached.
His jet mode can be attached to the underside of Skywarp's jet-mode nosecone for storage, and "launched" by pressing down on Skywarp's cockpit canopy. The placement of his Powerlinx port also makes it possible for him to activate Skywarp's rear-mounted cannons without getting in their way.
Skywarp and Thunderclash were not part of Takara's normal retail Legends of the Microns line, but were released in Japan as a Toys"R"Us-exclusive "USA Edition" toy, in Hasbro packaging with Japanese stickers to relay important legal information.
This toy doubles as the Beast Wars: Uprising character Thunder-Clash. This mold was also used to make Processor, Saber, and Triac.

Universe (2003)

[edit]
  • Ramjet with Thunderclash, Gunbarrel, Terradive and Thunderwing (Ultra, 2004)
In the 2003 Universe line, Thunderclash was barely redecoed as part of a Toys"R"Us exclusive "Spring Value Pack": his lavender unpaintable plastic was changed to light blue and that's it. Whee.
This pack also included Ramjet and (barely) redecoed versions of the Air Military Mini-Con Team (Gunbarrel, Terradive, and Thunderwing).
