Hot Rod thinks of his great sin.
Synopsis
[edit]Today, Hot Rod has a feeling that he'll catch a lot of fish, to Shaoshao Li's consternation as she isn't particularly fond of fish. Hot Rod points out the simple facts that they're on the run and they don't have any money. They need fish from the sea for food or Shaoshao'll starve, but luckily, Hot Rod's an accomplished fisherman, having caught a big one for Daniel once. Shaoshao isn't happy with life on the lam, only possessing a Chinese dress as her entire wardrobe. As a fish tugs on Hot Rod's line, the Transformer assures his partner that everything'll work out alright. Shaoshao's still sullen, wishing she was with Marissa Faireborn instead, and still irate that her friend's paling around with Optimus Prime. Hot Rod believes that this Optimus Prime is an imposter, as the true Prime would never use Legion to attack humans. Hod Rod has his own demons, saying that stopping this conflict and restoring relations between Transformers and humans will help absolve him of his own actions. Shaoshao doesn't really care if Optimus is real or not—all that matters is that he took Marissa from her.
The two receive a news alert that the nearby reconstructed Bay Bridge has been infested by several Legion, and the two set off to investigate before the Earth Defense Command shows up. Shaoshao wonders if the commotion will also attract Marissa's attention. There, Shaoshao gets on Hot Rod's shoulder and the Transformer analyzes the situation with his visor—there are 23 Legion in the vicinity . Hot Rod orders Shaoshao to kiss him, but the Kiss Player refuses. He takes it in stride and faces off against the Legion by himself, managing to do it only to see more come out of hiding. They threaten Shaoshao with their tongues, to her disgust. Hot Rod rushes to her rescue and the human blacks out. In her mind, Shaoshao thinks back to the first time the two met in the bowels of the EDC's headquarters, when he saved her from becoming an experiment.
Shaoshao awakens to see Hot Rod looking over her. Grateful, she give the robot a kiss and the two become one, a more powerful Hot Rod. The Transformer takes on the Legion easily, with the martial arts he's learned from his fusion with Shaoshao. In the meantime, he thinks back to his confrontation with Galvatron within Unicron and how, after the power of the Matrix transformed him into Rodimus Prime, he threw Galvatron out into space. But... Galvatron's path led him to Earth, where his impact devastated Tokyo and turned humans against Transformers. Out of guilt, Rodimus Prime gave the Matrix to Ultra Magnus and reverted to Hot Rod, seeking a lonely exile. Or perhaps he sought out somebody to "save" him. With Earth a battleground again, Hot Rod hopes that someday humanity will be friends with the Transformers again.
After unfusing, he looks to Shaoshao for moral support, but the girl's angry that he mistimed the unfusion and spat her naked self out into the river. Hot Rod doesn't really consider it a big deal, but she's soaking wet, as is her single item of clothing. Hot Rod simply mulls that they have a long way to go in their relationship as Shaoshao hangs her dress on his fishing pole to dry.

Notes
[edit]- As we find out later, Hot Rod's guilt is misplaced; Galvatron's original flight path wouldn't have hit Earth. However, forces seeking the proliferation of Galvatron's Unicron-infused cells in humans diverted him towards Earth, setting off the events of Kiss Players.
