Towards Peace is an autobiographical collection of Megatron's political writings, published in at least three editions. It serves as a manifesto for the Decepticon movement.
Fiction
[edit]2005 IDW continuity
[edit]The first edition of Towards Peace was dedicated to Terminus, though Megatron later recalled almost every copy and published a second edition with the dedication removed. Towards Peace
One of the surviving first editions wound up in the hands of Tarn, leader of the Decepticon Justice Division and all-round Megatron scholar. He had it mounted on his wall. The Permanent Revolution Millions of years later, after the supposed end of the war, Tarn quoted a passage from it explaining that the war could not end until Megatron laid down his weapon, before executing the traitorous Black Shadow. Rules of Disengagement
Six months after becoming an Autobot and (co-)captain of the Lost Light, Megatron asked to speak to Rung in his capacity as the ship's psychiatrist. Rung produced another first edition copy of Towards Peace that a "fellow bibliophile" had found in a Howling Town on the far side of Troja Major and asked Megatron about the edit he had made. Megatron revealed that he did it because Terminus had taught him not to get attached, going on to tell Rung that he now realised that little edits were no longer enough and he was going to write a second autobiography with the same title, but different words. Towards Peace
A postwar edition of Towards Peace was released, amended with footage of Megatron's speech from his trial at the Raskol Arena on Luna 2 where he renounced Decepticon principles and ordered the remaining Decepticons to stand down. Following his being forced into sobriety at Megatron's hands, Trailcutter began reading this edition, though he had barely gotten past the Messatine years before he was killed by Kaon of the Decepticon Justice Division. Protesting that the war was over, Trailcutter's allies First Aid and Bluestreak pointed to his copy of Towards Peace as proof that Megatron had indeed laid down his weapon, so Kaon took it back to the D.J.D. for further examination. Births, Deaths, and Interventions
Listening to Megatron's speech in Trailcutter's copy of Towards Peace caused Tarn to have a crisis of confidence in the Decepticon cause, though quickly he rallied his faith and sought out Deathsaurus and his 500 Decepticons to form an alliance against Megatron and the crew of the Lost Light. The Permanent Revolution
Soundwave quoted a snippet of Towards Peace in an attempt to convince the Sharkticons to turn against their Junkion masters. It worked. Future Glories Lost Inspired by this tactic, he later tried the same on the Maximal horde when they invaded Caminus along with Unicron. It did not work. Last Stand
