Trans-phase mode

I may look dead, but I'm not!

Trans-phase mode (トランスフェイズ・モード toransufeizu mōdo) is the nebulous, nanite-like form that Sideways and other agents of Unicron sometimes take. Whether it be a nanite cloud, a static-textured tentacle, or his appearance projected onto the sky, it doesn't matter. Regardless of the form, you can't destroy them! Even if you hack them into tiny pieces.

After it was revealed that Sideways was not working for the Decepticons, Sideways fled, but was soon cut down by Megatron, who was wielding the Star Saber. However, he quickly showed that it had no effect on ending his existence, as he used his trans-phase mode to repair himself, change shape, and escape.

Ask Vector Prime

Sideways's transmorphic regenerative abilities posed a problem to Vector Prime in their transdimensional conflicts. Vector Prime also once had a series of interesting encounters with Primax 603.0 Beta's Gigatron, who also had transmorphic regenerative abilities. Ask Vector Prime, 2015/05/31

• Concept sketches for the Armada cartoon show a 'skeletonized' version of Sideways associated with this mode. The concept was ultimately not used.
