Synopsis
[edit]Nemesis Prime steals the Artifacts of the Primes, hoping to claim their power for his own. As he prepares to exit Cybertron's orbit, however, his ship is shot down by the planet's defenses and its contents spilled out into space, scattering the artifacts across the cosmos. While Nemesis retreats to recover his strength, the Autobots and Decepticons begin competing to reclaim the relics for themselves before the other faction, with their campaign coming to be known on Cybertron as the Galactic Trials.

Gameplay
[edit]Galactic Trials is a "battle-race" game that mixes arcade-style racing with third-person shooter mechanics. Players can choose from 11 playable characters and 10 battle-race tracks, attempting to defeat their opponents by destroying them and/or reaching the finish line first. Characters automatically change modes at predetermined points on each track, switching between high speed racing in vehicle mode and combat in robot mode. By performing techniques such as drifting and boosting during race segments, players will charge up energon that can be expended to trigger special moves in combat segments. Between races, players can equip different weapons and up to three relics, which grant additional perks during gameplay.
The game features two primary modes. The single-player Galactic Trials mode features level-based progression, through which players will obtain new relics, as well as unlock additional playable characters and skins. In Arcade mode, up to two players can compete locally in quick races, as well as enter special location-based tournaments. Each character has a "Legacy" skin and a gold-colored "Prestige" skin.
Achievements
[edit]When completing various goals and tasks during the game, the player will be rewarded as part of their console of choice's meta-goal system. Players can earn up to 22 Trophies on PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5, and 21 Achievements on Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S. The PlayStation versions' trophies come in four types: Bronze, which represent easier tasks and are worth the least experience; Silver, which are awarded for challenges of mid-level difficulty; Gold, which are given for harder tasks and worth more experience; and Platinum, the highest-level trophy unlocked only after earning all of a game's other trophies. On the Xbox versions, each achievement has a Gamerscore value that adds to the player's total Gamerscore across all games played; up to 1000 Gamerscore can be earned in Expedition. These achievements can also be earned in the PC version as part of the Steam interface, but lack the individual values and weights from the console versions.
Notes
[edit]Transformers references
[edit]- Cybertron is based on its appearance in Prime. Nemesis Prime's ship is also based on the Prime incarnation of the Nemesis.
- The Artifacts in this game are the Apex Armor, Enigma of Combination, Triptych Mask, Lenses, Emberstone, Chimera Stone, Conversion Cog, Liegian Darts, Terminus Blade, and Proton Spear.
- Optimus Prime, Bumblebee, Wheeljack, Elita-1, Megatron, Soundwave, Shockwave, and Nightbird's "Legacy" skins are based on their Shattered Glass counterparts (by extension, Wheeljack is based on Generation 1 Slicer, Elita-1 on Cybertron Override GTS, Soundwave on Music Label Soundwave, and Nightbird on Combiner Wars Dust Up). Arcee and Flamewar's Legacy skins draw from their Prime counterparts and Nemesis Prime's is a reference to Nightwatch Optimus Prime.
- Some of the names of weapons appear to be named after guns found in Fall of Cybertron.
- Despite being the Evergreen designs for the most part, Shockwave's alternate mode most closely resembles how he looks in War for Cybertron and Fall of Cybertron.
- Multiple achievements are named after quotes from episodes of The Transformers:
- "Autobots, Roll Out!" and "Decepticons, Attack!" were the go-to rallying cries of their respective faction leaders.
- "One Shall Stand. One Shall Fall", "Light our darkest hour", "Till All Are One", "I thought you were made of sterner stuff!", and "We need Energon and a lot of Luck!" all originate from The Transformers: The Movie.
- "Desire alone is not enough" and "Everything I touch is food for my hunger" were both said by Megatron in "More than Meets the Eye, Part 2".
- "Neither impossible, nor impassable!" was an Alice in Wonderland reference dropped by Optimus in "Prime Target".
- "The future is built on dreams" were Optimus's concluding words in "The Core".
- You know where "More Than Meets the Eye" comes from.
