You can probably buy this at the liquor store.

The biggest movie of summer 2009 was released to DVD and Blu-ray in North America on October 20th, 2009. Are you prepared? Do you know your exclusive transforming case from your extra seconds of metal smashy-smashy? Here's what you need to know:

General retail releases

[edit]

Hundreds of retail chains across the United States are offering ROTF for sale, from grocery stores to pharmacies to gas stations. There are essentially four versions of ROTF available for Region 1 purchase - the single-disc DVD, the two-disc "special edition" available on Blu-Ray or DVD, and the Walmart-exclusive "Big Screen Edition" which is the only version containing the IMAX-exclusive footage (but is otherwise identical to the Special Edition).

Here's everything you could ever want to know about the different releases:

Single-disc release

[edit]
DVD approximately $15 US / £10 UK
  • All editions of ROTF include the following:
    • Revenge of the Fallen in widescreen format

    • English language tracks and subtitles plus additional subtitles in Danish, Norwegian, Finnish, and Swedish (UK / Scandinavia)

    • English and Chinese language tracks and subtitles (China / Hong Kong / Taiwan / Singapore)
    • English and Japanese language tracks and subtitles (Japan)
    • English and Thai language tracks and subtitles plus additional subtitles in Malay, Indonesian, and Korean (Thailand / Malaysia / Indonesia / South Korea)
    • English and French language tracks and subtitles plus additional subtitles in Dutch (France / the Netherlands)
    • English and Spanish language tracks and subtitles (Spain)
    • English and Portuguese language tracks and subtitles (Brazil)
    • English, German, and Turkish language tracks and subtitles (Germany / Austria / Turkey)

We're not playing favorites... but let's face it; this is the one you want.

Unfortunately, due to a decree by the Georgia governor during the flooding that occurred in the Fall, no retailers were allowed to initiate price increases until the end of October. Not even to fix a pricing error.
