Transformers 3: The Game (sometimes known as TF3) was the internal name for a Transformers game in development at Luxoflux, following the release of their 2009 Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen tie-in game. Although its title suggests it would be a tie-in to the upcoming Dark of the Moon film, none of its known content seems to be actually related to the third Transformers live-action movie (see notes).
As Luxoflux closed down, development for Transformers 3: The Game was briefly moved to Taiwanese studio :}}XPEC Entertainment|. Eventually, the game never came to fruition, with High Moon Studios taking the lead on developing future games for the Transformers franchise in the next years to come — including the actual, ultimately entirely different Transformers: Dark of the Moon video game.
Overview
[edit]
Shortly after the release of the Character and Map Pack DLC, Luxoflux began work on another Transformers game codenamed TF3. Artists Ken Christiansen and Frankell Baramdyka created character and environment concept arts intended for the game. However, the game was abruptly cancelled, due to Luxoflux’s closure in 2010. No more details would be known about the game until a prototype build of the game leaked in 2024, dated September 2009. This test build of the game contains various dioramas for levels intended to be in the game, such as the arctic, Junkion, and an area based on the Quintesson Court seen in the 86 movie.
As well as containing a debug menu, this build is also compatible with the files of the 2009 Revenge of the Fallen videogame and its DLC, allowing for a more in depth look into the game’s characters and levels, including playing as Demolisher and the Fallen! This game would’ve taken a more G1-inspired approach, with Grimlock, Cyclonus and more G1 characters were planned to be playable characters. Thankfully, a G1-inspired third person shooter Transformers game featuring Grimlock and Cyclonus would later release, made by High Moon Studios and Vicarious Visions.
In May 2026, an Xbox 360 test build of :}}Skylanders: Spyro's Adventure| would get leaked online. This test build was dated August 3rd, 2010, an entire year before the game's release. In the test build, as well as in the game files, there would be references to a Transformers 3 game, such as a menu screen and some video files. Developer :}}XPEC Entertainment|, who would later work on Spyro’s Adventure, reused Luxoflux’s engine and assets, but was later discarded in the final release. There’s only one level in the build, an early version of the Crystal Castle level, with other variations set at different times of day, all with several Skylanders characters standing in the middle of the map.

Notes
[edit]- It is worth noting that, while the Transformers: Dark of the Moon movie was in development at the same time, nothing in this game relates to the plot of the movie. Either XPEC were going to make an original 3rd live action Transformers game, or it would’ve been a prequel to the movie. XPEC’s version of TF3 would later be discarded for High Moon Studios’ Dark of the Moon game, though judging from the date of the test build and the announcement trailer in March 2011, High Moon probably had a little under a year to make it.
