Transmat reduction beam

The transmat reduction beam is a piece of technology from the cartoon portion of the Generation 1 continuity family.
And you're saying this has been here this whole time? That's funny - I don't even remember you being here this whole time!

The transmat reduction beam is one of the many gadgets in Perceptor's laboratory. It can be used to either increase or decrease the size of objects — one of its conventional uses is to enlarge damaged microchips to a size at which they can be more easily repaired. Its effects are only temporary, however, and after a while anything which has had its size altered will revert to its original state.

[edit]

While using the reduction beam to enlarge one of Ironhide's chips to a size where he could more easily work with it, Perceptor found himself on the receiving end of Brawn's insults.

Perceptor later proposed a radical use for the device—he, Brawn and Bumblebee used it to shrink themselves to a size suitable for infiltrating Megatron's armour. Once inside, they were able to locate and extract the Heart of Cybertron, an energy source which the Decepticon leader had installed within himself. The trio made their escape as the effects of the transmat reduction beam wore off. Microbots
