Vintage G1

The next poll was announced via Hasbro Pulse and Hasbro's social media accounts on December 10, 2018 to decide a future toy out of two pairs for release in the Vintage G1 toyline in Spring of 2020. Activate Your Alt Mode

Througout the month of August 2025 several polls were held to give an existing Transformers character a brand new alt mode. Round 1 consisted of three polls to pick which character would receive the new alt mode.Round 2 focused on which alt mode category the winner should have. Round 3 featured four alt mode types to pick from.

In Round 1, Grimlock won the Autobot vote while Shockwave won the Deception vote, with Shockwave emerging triumphant in the last poll. During Round 2 voting, Nate Purswell clarified what the alt mode types for each category would be. Land consisted of creature, truck, train, or supercar. Sea consisted of Speedboat, Submarine, Creature, or Hoverboat. Air consisted of Jet, Helicopter, Creature, or Airship, And Wild Card had Weapon, Starfigher, Creature, or Device. Additionally Nate clarified that no fan art was going to be used as the design for the winner. Likely spurred on by commenters hoping for a Spinosaurus Shockwave inspired by a popular piece of fan art. Sea ended up the winner of the alt mode category and Creature ended up the winner for the alt mode type. The final design was revealed on September 17, 2025. Shockwave would have a humpback whale alt mode. A design video featuring Evan Brooks went into detail on how they came up with the concept. Several different alt modes were considered such as a shark, manta ray, or squid. However they soon settled on a humpback whale and cited the recent Skybound comics and Shockwave's fascination with the creatures as an influence.
