Here are my principles for disambiguating articles:

1) We have to do it.

2) Any system needs to be flexible enough to adapt to new things coming from Hasbro and Takara in the future.

3) Any system needs to be flexible enough to handle weird cases with exceptions, but not let the exceptions become too common.

4) Any system needs to be clear, and actually separate things which are different.

5) Any system needs to handle more than just characters.
