Welcome to the TFWiki! --Tigerpaw28 23:38, 15 December 2010 (EST)

Thanks! I've never been much of a wiki guy, so I apologize in advance for any mistakes I might make or toes upon which I might step. Guidance, suggestions, clarifications, etc, greatly appreciated. Specifically, any policies on linking to external sites as references? Couldn't find any in the help/style pages; I've been going off examples found in my random browsing. Also, I imagine I'm still not using this talk page correctly... :-! Bobcat2022 22:10, 16 December 2010 (EST)

Well you're close. Questions regarding policies are usually better located on the Community portal talk page (link is in sidebar) or perhaps the talk page of a relevant help article. Or if you want to direct a question to a specific user, then their talk page would be appropriate. Other than that, just need to use a colon or colons to indent your paragraphs. Outlining paragraphs like that makes it easier to tell who's saying what in long discussions.
As for your policy question, linking external sites as references is desired whenever possible and warranted. I'm not entirely sure what our guidelines would be for what situations warrant references though. That question should definitely be brought up in the Community portal. At the least, they're needed when quoting or paraphrasing a real person. Oh, and Help:Citing sources has some information (via Wikipedia mostly) on ways to format citations. --Tigerpaw28 02:51, 17 December 2010 (EST)
Good info, ¡muchas gracias! Specifically, I was looking at overhauling the Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum page to include, for example, a link to their Transformers exhibit: http://airandspace.si.edu/exhibitions/uhc/case_transformers.cfm . I'm comfortable with MLA & similar formats, I'm more wondering where on the page citations ought to go. I can't recall seeing any examples in my own browsing of the wiki. --Bobcat2022 01:38, 24 December 2010 (EST)

Hi, when referring to an article like Autobot in the plural, you don't need to type the wikilink as "[[Autobot|Autobots]]". Just adding 's' at the end, outside of the brackets, and the link will work/appear correctly. Example: [[Autobot]]s. --FFN 12:17, 19 December 2010 (EST)

Thanks for the tip– I'd actually done that on purpose, if only because that's how they told us to do plural hyperlinks back in the sixth-grade HTML club. Is that contrary to the preferred style on this wiki? --Bobcat2022 01:38, 24 December 2010 (EST)
