Citing sources

[edit]

Hi there! Really appreciate your work on the Shattered Glass articles. However, please can you be sure to cite your sources in future. A lot of Shattered Glass information comes from social media posts. Information we need to know includes... when did we find out about this? Who gave the information? In what context?

A full guide to citation can be found in Help:Citing sources. If you could take a look at it and try to use the {{citesocial}} template with future edits, that would be amazing! Otherwise, it's likely that many of your additions will be removed.

(Obviously if you're writing about what's plainly evident in published media itself, and it's clear what media you're talking about, it's not a problem.)--wadapan (talk) 04:42, 15 September 2025 (EDT)

Yeah, of course. Are there any particular things I've added that need a source specifically? So I can go back and check. I have tried to make sure things are properly referenced, though may have missed a thing or two. The one thing I don't have any source for is the Sweep (SG) being repurposed from BotCon 2009 Scourge, I took that information from the Coalescence page, and it was uncited there. --Dinobot Scorn (talk) 10:56, 15 September 2025 (EDT)
Regarding this, this was another thing that came from my personal correspondence with Jesse Wittenrich - which again, got lost to time when the Allspark Forums got erased for a while. Unfortunately I never wrote that stuff down but I can swear that I definitely got it from him, for as much as that's worth. Escargon (talk) 12:53, 15 September 2025 (EDT)
Yeah, in fairness, there's lots of info in the obscure corners of the wiki that just comes from personal correspondence or in-person conversations at conventions, and there's no easy way of citing any of that stuff, certainly no way of doing so retroactively. I've definitely written references like "Guy Fullname in conversation at TFNation 20XX" or "Firstname Lastname over Instagram DMs" before. --wadapan (talk) 18:05, 15 September 2025 (EDT)
Scorn, to address your point--I removed your mentions of Chromia, Sky-Byte and the Fallen from the Shattered Glass page, because that was the edit I happened to click on, but I'd recommend looking back at your contributions to see if you think there are similar cases like that. Regarding the unpublished SG profiles, I know which ones you're talking about, but again, you should add a proper citation with a link to the profile itself, because it's not published Transformers media. The {{citesocial}}template should work for that.
If the information is already present on the wiki and you're just duplicating it, but it's uncited in the first place, good practise would be to check the edit history to see when the information was added. If the editor left a summary, maybe saying something like "info from Person's Twitter account", then that's a good starting point to add a citation! Or, if there's genuinely no indication of where the information came from, then you need to add the {{fact}} template wherever the information appears.
I hope this helps. Let me know if you're still unsure! --wadapan (talk) 18:05, 15 September 2025 (EDT)
Yeah, I've added reference links for all of those "unrealized" characters. Went back to have a quick look over any edits not about in-fiction stuff, and everything should be up to code. --Dinobot Scorn (talk) 19:09, 15 September 2025 (EDT)
