That also includes adding jokes to the main text without any real content of substance to accompany them. -- Cyberlink420 (talk) 18:15, 24 June 2020 (EDT)
Just a heads up, User Talk pages are not to be blanked. --M Sipher (talk) 20:20, 26 June 2020 (EDT)
- Okay, point-by-point:
- "Captionbastard" is just the name of the template, not any sort of personal attack, and it's one we have to use a lot. So many people sign up for accounts solely because they see funny captions and want to put their own stamp on things (whether or not these jokes are actually good is up for debate). But while we allow humor, the wiki's primary purpose is being a source of information, so if someone is just here to crack jokes without actually helping build out the articles, we don't want them here; there's plenty of other places for them to make jokes if that's all they want to do. Admittedly, the name is sort of a relic of an older era of the site, and we've been meaning to change it to something less aggressive for some time now; hopefully this will accelerate that process.
- TFWiki is a collaborative site. Articles don't stay static after they're first posted; they get rewritten for grammar or clarity or flow all the time. I can't count how many times I've made an article that got completely redone from scratch. It's not personal, it's just the nature of the beast.
- The "Not a chat room" policy exists because TFWiki is just that: not a chatroom. People come here and start just talking about whatever because they're used to other wikis on sites like Fandom where they have general discussion boards for talking about the article subjects. But that's not what the talk pages are for here; they're meant to be used as a place to discuss the article itself. You know, getting feedback on major changes you want to make to the text, debating recent changes that people disagree with, looking for spots where it can be improved or reworked, and so on. Plenty of us discuss Transformers stuff at length with other TFWiki users via other message boards or over Discord. Just not on these pages.
- We don't allow users to blank their talk pages because 90% or more of the people that do so are bad eggs who want to whitewash their reputation and hide any previous warnings, disagreements with editors, or a history of wiki vandalism. Not saying that was your intention, but it's a catch-all policy to discourage people from trying to cover up their mistakes.
- If you still want to leave, then that's your choice, but I thought a little perspective might help you understand why things are the way they are around here. We'd also encourage you to look at the rules in the help section for other policies we have that you might run into. -- Cyberlink420 (talk) 12:37, 27 June 2020 (EDT)
Thank you for explaining me stuff, I have a history of overreacting and misinterpretation. Might I suggest “Caption: Funnyman?” —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Loof (talk • contribs){{#if:| {{{2}}}|}}.
- We're actually probably going to switch it to "Captionhappy" relatively soon. (Also, when posting to talk pages, make sure you sign your posts! Just type four tildes (~~~~) and the wiki will take care of the rest.) -- Cyberlink420 (talk) 12:11, 29 June 2020 (EDT)
Funny, you explained how the wiki signs your post, and the wiki doesn’t sign your post. Now let me try. Loof (talk) 12:36, 29 June 2020 (EDT)
- Nah, that's on me; I missed an > when adding the Nowiki HTML to make sure the four tildes would display, and it stopped them from working on the rest of the page. That'll fix it. -- Cyberlink420 (talk) 12:44, 29 June 2020 (EDT)
"Also, someone keeps deleting my image caption jokes."
[edit]You asked a question on your user page; it should be here on your talk page.
I've reverted a few of your captions, but not all of them. I left the reason on the reversion edit: adding humorous captions is a bonus for people who've contributed a substantial amount of information or useful edits. I don't know if there's a precise definition of "substantial" here. It's probably more of a consensus of editors and admins. At the time, you were (and still are) pretty new, and most of your edits were captions or user page edits.
It's just my opinion, and I'm no admin, but you should probably have many useful edits for every funny caption. If so, people will probably conclude you're not just here to fill up the wiki with jokes. Remember: the wiki is informative first, funny second. I recommend not getting too attached to image captions; instead care more about the content of your useful edits. I say this as someone who's had caption edits removed.
Likewise, if someone swoops in and tries to change captions on images you've uploaded and captioned without a good reason, most editors would revert those too. I know I would. Welcome back and happy editing! Prime Radiant (talk) 18:49, 4 July 2020 (EDT)
Okay, thanks. Your friendly neighbourhood loof (talk) 14:58, 5 July 2020 (EDT)
