Hello Transfans :) I thought I'd like to add notes or make changes to existing info to help clarify issues in the Transformers world, primarily regarding the original G1 (Generation 1) Transformers cartoon. I just started editing last night, so I'm still getting myself acquainted with how the wikipedia site works, and esp. how to COMMUNICATE with those whom I should contact before trying to offer my editing advice. I'm having trouble navigating the site, so this is my best attempt at the moment to receive permission from the Wikipedia moderators/main editors who determine which editing is or isn't appropriate :) I'm sincerely sorry if I seem to do anything impulsive: I was under the impression that it's ok to add info or make changes to a minor degree, but am wary if my info has been too subjective or speculative to be warranted as helpful. It could also be the case that I'm having trouble making my changes permanent via this old computer/browser, yet I see my suggested edits are still on file with this site. I'll be checking my 'talk' page periodically as I seek further navigation assistance. THANK YOU to anyone who can help me! ~Nick
- Try Walky or Chris McFeely. A problem with your more recent entries is that it's heavy on the fan speculation. Also you put a lot of notes in character profiles. These are meant solely as an intro to the characters. Notes and such go in trivia User:Eire 22.40 Aug 19 09 (UTC)
- Exactly. Your enthusiasm is definitely appreciated, but your approach isn't quite right. If you check the edit summaries for many of the reversions on your edits, you'll see the primary objection is that they're heavy on "hand-waving"—providing purely speculative explanations for errors and oddities. We try to minimize that sort of thing on the wiki. If a canon/official explanation is available, be it in-fiction or real-world, fantastic. Barring that, we try to restrict our approach to pointing out the errors, rather than including guesses (even well informed guesses) for explaining them away.
- Oh, and for signing your name on Talk page posts, SOP is to type four tildes (~~~~) or to click the signature button, which is the next-to-last one above the edit window.--Apcog 20:38, 19 August 2009 (EDT)
Sorry about that. I wanted to add speculation to what already seemed to be predominantly speculative, but I guess there's a limit to how much can be provided. I got the wrong idea. I'm not sure why my contributions are still in the database if they're not useful unless some of them simply need to be reassigned to the proper section as suggested, such as trivia. I know I tried to correct a quote, but it keeps being reset...I can provide evidence that it's erroneous, but I'm not sure how I should do that. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 71.119.250.173 (talk • contribs) 01:49, 20 August 2009.
- Most of what you edited were comments that originally said, "This is an error," and sometimes "How do you supposed they messed that up?" Beyond that, some may have offered tongue-in-cheek explanations, but not actual speculation. Most of your edits were essentially adding "And here's how it might be explained," and it's the "might be" part that was causing trouble.
- As for the Inferno quote, it would be good of you to provide evidence, since otherwise, people will just think you're not hearing it properly and revert your edit again.
- Oh, and you forgot to sign your post again. Even if you're not logged in, you should still sign it to help keep track of who said what later on.--Apcog 11:37, 20 August 2009 (EDT)
