Friedman's Autobiography
[edit]In his autobiography (I Killed Optimus Prime) Friedman makes various claims about his writing career and time at Sunbow. A lot of these were too dubious to include in the article. I'm listing them here for completion's sake and if anyone wants to weigh in on this.
Friedman rewrote the first forty episodes of the cartoon. He came up with the title of Transformers: The Movie as well as G.I Joe: The Movie's. p 67
Megatron being rebuilt as Galvatron shows how the Transformers are able to cheat death. p88-90
Friedman had Hot Rod and Kup be old and young to demonstrate that Autobots age unlike the Decepticons, who are less 'human' as a result. p 99
Created Arcee because "I knew girls liked the show and wanted them to have one of their own to root for" p100
He describes "going back and forth to edit" "scenes" "and "their" weight became part of the whole ongoing story" (the specific example given is Hot Rod's guilt over causing Prime's death) p102
He has way more writing credits than IMBD lists p121
His first big idea about writing TFTM was that he wanted characters to die p161
He didn't want to kill Optimus Prime p167
He wrote both versions of the script on his own with no "consultant, outside contributions or collaborators".
The later rewrites weren't significant enough to get credit according to the writer guild
The first draft was rejected because it focused too much on the villains. He created Astrotrain p169
The second draft was a "mandatory rewrite"p170
Unicron wasn't in the first draft p171
Daniel showed "Autobots and human beings together" something that to his "knowledge had never been done before in any Transformers format."p175
He was given the assignment to write the TRANSFORMERS animated feature.
He calls GI Joe the movie "the third, five part miniseries for G.I. JOE"
A problem for both cartoons was the massive casts p 191
He apparently created Lady Jaye because he wanted more female Joes p 192
He can't remember if he edited 58 or 63 Transformers episodes because it was done so fast. When the film was released he regretted giving Energon such a major role as he felt it was over done p213
He got around the large number of characters in G.I Joe by having "defined action groups" "teams of two, three, four or more CHARACTERS, good or bad, who must deal with a specific problem, action, or assignment, or are forced to work together because of unexpected circumstances" p214
During his time with Marvel productions the budget for the Iron Man and Fantastic Four cartoons were secretly siphoned into the 90s Spiderman cartoon p247 (I actually believe believe this one)
CBS
[edit]- There's not much commentary one can give in an edit reason and I am not certain how to understand your edit reason for reverting the note I added to Victory (G1). I do understand I made an error, my apologies, but the purpose of the note was to add information about the Bermuda Triangle being a once-considered or still-possible location. That kind of information is in the notes for the Ark (G1), so it should be good for the Victory (G1) (and/or Decepticon Headquarters (G1 Earth)), only now I don't know how to source the information because none of the More than Meets the Eye pages seem to have this kind of info. What should I do from here?
- I explained the caption on the CBS pitch out of politeness, not necessity. The schlond poofa is one of the most well-known running gags in one of the most popular Barbie fictions ever made. It got so popular the term is (or was) trademarked by Mattel. (As an extra layer to the reference, a schlond poofa "is" a muffler, more or less.) There are plenty far more obscure joke-references on this wiki. My only concern was if I'm yet allowed to add a caption; if I'm not, fair enough, though the caption help page only "discourages".
