[edit]Last Bot Standing
[edit]
Long after the end of the Great War, and the near-extinction of the Cybertronian species, Vex was one of a dozen Cybertronians who joined up with Steeljaw's remnant Cybertronian faction, who'd converted to biofuel to survive in a post-energon universe. Shortly after making planetfall on the remote world of Donnokt, Vex assisted Lunaclub, Wedge, and Treadshock as they set up their biofuel refinery to begin processing local resources into sustenance. Last Bot Standing #2
When the group discovered the elderly Rodimus on the planet, Steeljaw saw an opportunity to induct him into their group after first reconfiguring his systems to process biofuel. While Steeljaw lead some of his troops to the nearby town of Fembrance, Vex kept Rodimus pinned down while the others set about processing Rodimus's friend Shib into biofuel. Wheelie however, nostalgic at seeing an old friend, allowed Rodimus and Shib to share a last goodbye, the girl taking the chance to plug an energon key into Rodimus's chest, the shot he needed to get back up into fighting shape. After the old Autobot destroyed the biofuel refinery, a terrified Wheelie ordered Vex and Treadshock to race to Fembrance and inform Steeljaw. Although the pair got a head start on Rodimus, the old Autobot successfully caught up with them; in the ensuing chase, Rodimus sent Vex spinning out of control, then landed on his prone body feet-first and crushed his head. Notes
[edit]- Like Sharpclaw, who also appears in Last Bot Standing, Vex was originally created by one of Nick Roche's children—in this case, his then seven-year old son.<ref>{{#if: It's my son's 7th birthday, and I'm abandoning him to go to a Transformers convention. So let me share his contribution to TFs: He designed a character called VEX, and I tightened it up to include him in #3 of LAST BOT STANDING. He gets offed by Rodimus in the car chase. - For his brief appearance in issue #2 of Last Bot Standing, Vex uses a completely different design: rather than a bulky, rust-red Transformer with six wheels, he's instead drawn with a slender, vaguely feminine body and a purple-and-yellow colour scheme. It's possible that this stemmed from some kind of miscommunication between artist, colorist, and writer, or simply that Vex's design hadn't been finalized when the issue went to print.
