The Grand Uprising began in [[2384]] when [[Blackarachnia (BW)|Blackarachnia]] returned from [[Axiom Nexus]] to her home universe, seeking to travel to [[Earth]]. Crash-landing on the dystopian Cybertron of her birth, she went underground and began recruiting a group of like-minded dissidents who would overthrow the stagnant Builder order and their endless [[Games (competition)|Games]]. In search of a suitable leader to spearhead the revolution, she found [[Lio Convoy#Beast Wars: Uprising|Lio Convoy]], the Maximal Guardian of Order—[[Eject (G1)|Eject]]'s stooge responsible for fixing the endless matches. Her words inspired a crisis of conscience in the Maximal, and after realizing that the caste-based society he upheld was corrupt beyond repair, Lio Convoy vowed to tear down the system and start anew. 

Their movement soon coalesced into the [[Resistance]], a group of disaffected Maximals and Predacons looking to topple the Builder oligarchy. The Resistance fired the first shots of the war during the opening ceremonies of the 1924th Game; Lio Convoy assassinated emcee [[Supersonic]] with an [[Angolmois Blaster]], then publicly revealed his involvement in the crooked Games before revealing the [[Energon Matrix|energon matrix]] in his chest. The broadcast caused pandemonium across Cybertron; three-quarters of the Maximals and ninety percent of the Predacons opted to rebel against the Builders. Firmly on the back foot, the Builders attempted to maintain a semblance of order among the loyalists while trying to quietly stamp out the Resistance by deploying the [[Maximal Command Security Force]], the [[Predacon Secret Police]], and teams of still-mobile [[Micromaster]]s. Their negligence allowed the Resistance to launch multiple incursions on the city of [[Tarn (polity)|Tarn]], where they attempted to breach the frozen [[Fortress Maximus (G1)|Fortress Maximus]] and free the prisoners within. The first two raids were failures, but on the third the Resistance killed Fortress Maximus's consciousness and freed the Maximal and Predacon dissidents within. A string of Builder victories followed—the battle of [[Melpomene Bridge]] saw the MCSF detonate the bridge and momentarily halt the Resistance advance. However, with Fort Max gone, the Builders were spooked. Before long, it was hard to deny that Cybertron was once again at war, and violence intensified all across the planet. {{storylink|Trigger Warnings}} Four years into the war, [[Megatron (BW)|Megatron]] developed the [[Beast mode|Beast Upgrade]], which freed Maximals and Predacons from the need to find [[Energon]]. {{storylink|Not All Megatrons}}

Six years into the war, and the Beast Upgrade had allowed the Resistance to make massive advances, putting the Builders on the defensive. Desperate, they tried unleashing a last ditch attempt at ending the fighting, in the form of the sparkless [[Vehicon (BM)|Vehicon]]s. {{storylink|Safe Spaces}}
