Donavan was part of a mission to [[Castle Neuschwanstein]] to investigate the [[Non-Biological Extraterrestrial|N.B.E.]] that the [[Nazi]]s had gotten hold of. The aircraft ran into a platoon of laser tanks which shot it down, resulting in the team having to bail out. After hitting the ground, Donavan found [[Lupton]] and then [[Bill Simmons|Simmons]] alive, shortly before [[Newcombe]] was killed by one of the tanks. The trio took shelter in a ditch where Donavan took advantage of the tank's lack of maneuverability to load his rocket launcher. His single shot successfully damaged the tank, exposing the driver, but the blowback from the launcher injured him severely enough that he told Simmons and Lupton to go on with the mission without him. {{storylink|Weapon (issue)|Weapon}}
