Responding to a distress call from their [[Beastformer (species)|Beastformer]] allies on the planet [[Beast (planet)|Beast]], the Trainbots hurtled through the atmosphere in their separate train modes to deal with the Decepticons menacing the planet. Combining in mid-air, the united team allowed gravity to do the rest of the work as Raiden delivered a shattering "JR Kick" straight to Predaking's face, taking him out of the fight. The day won, [[Chromedome (G1)|Chromedome]] directed the Trainbots to shuttle the any of the Beastformers' wounded back to the Autobot base on [[Athenia]] for treatment. {{storylink|The Decisive Battle of Planet Beast!}}

At [[Doctor Fujiyama the Famous Scientist|Doctor Fujiyama]]'s lab (provided by [[Shibuya Manufacturing Corporation|Shibuya Electronic]]), he and [[Atari Hitotonari]] watch as "Development Code Mach" is rebooted. Later, Mach is with his brothers [[Getsuei|Night]] and [[Yukikaze (G1)|Snow]], in preparation for testing together. Fujiyama is a bit tired of Mach's overly eager attitude, so he assigns babysitting duties to Hitotonari. Before his regular [[energon cube]] feeding, Mach asks Hitotonari... why was he made? What is his true purpose in life? Hitotonari, [[Transformers: Kiss Players (franchise)|having went through similar questions herself]], advises the [[Trainbot]] that he should think about it, and make his own choices for himself.
 
Elsewhere in the lab, [[Nightbird (G1)|Nightbird]] has broken out thanks to her evil AI "brother", [[Shadow]]. The two exploit the lab's resources, upgrading the ninja robot's chassis. The two make their big entrance in front of the three finalized Trainbots and the two humans, but Mach transforms to save his creators from harm, having made his own choice to protect others. Nightbird rushes deeper into the lab, so Fujiyama commands all mobile Trainbots to take her in, unharmed.


Back on Earth, the Trainbots wowed Daniel with their amphibious talents as they transported him and the Autobot Headmasters on a mission to investigate reports of massive squids attacking the Autobots' undersea bases. The Decepticons were laying in ambush and unleashed the culprit, a giant robot squid! The Trainbots allowed themselves to be entangled by the mechanical mollusk, biding their time until Daniel was safe inside his [[exosuit]] and the Headmasters' remotely piloted [[transtector]]s converged on their location. When the time was right, the Trainbots erupted into their robot modes, catapulting their passengers to safety and shredding several of creatures' tentacles in the process. As the Headmasters did their part by tying the creature into one massive knot, the Trainbots made a show of it by erupting from the ocean as Raiden to swing the swing the automaton architeuthis like a mace, flattening the other Decepticons and ending the aquatic menace. {{storylink|The Headmasters issue 3|The Headmasters #3}}
Elsewhere, Nightbird finds the three still inactivated Trainbots that Shadow proposes converting into her "vassals". They're interrupted when [[Yamabuki|Yellow]] and her team of prototype Trainbots confront the ninja. Nightbird attempts an escape, so Doctor has her team combine into [[G Liner]] to easily subdue their "sister". Unfortunately, as Shadow points out, the prototype combiner is a bit slow on the draw, so the swift Nightbird manages to install Shadow's [[cerebro-shell]] program into G Liner. Under the two's control, G Liner absconds with the three sleeping Trainbots, leading to the remaining three panicking on what to do. Mach takes charge and is deemed the leader; he proposes a risky idea of literally charging into the combiner in a doubleheader configuration with himself and Snow, with Night holding up the track.

After the tactic succeeds at stopping Nightbird and G Liner, [[Autobot]] reinforcements help with the clean up while Doctor angrily chews out her younger brothers for such a dangerous maneuver. (Hitotonari, on the other hand, is happy that Mach is closer to discovering what he wants to live for.) Fujiyama is exasperated at his creations fighting, but is grateful that his precious Nightbird is back to him safe and sound... only to see that she's escaped and left Night unconscious!

Perched above the city, Nightbird ponders her next move as Shadow asks if she's lonely, even with her brother's company.
Upon their arrival to [[Athenia]], the [[Targetmaster (technology)|Targetmasters]] set out to make themselves useful by offering their expertise to [[Fortress Maximus (G1)|Fortress's]] existing troops. While the Trainbots could assume their train modes in a flash, when it came time to combine into Raiden, the big guy failed to live up to his name. Several years after the Decepticons' expulsion from Earth following the final battle at the North Pole, the Trainbots were dispatched to pick up a new Autobot warrior named [[Ginrai (human)|Ginrai]] who had risen to prominence on Earth and bring him to [[Athenia]] so Fortress could appoint him [[Supreme Commander]]. Naturally, the Decepticons attacked Athenia during Ginrai's stay, and Raiden was formed to fight back, only for him to wind up being cut down alongside Chromedome by a powerful blast from the combined Decepticon [[Scramble 7]]. {{storylink|The Battle Begins! The attack on Athenia had proven that the Decepticons on Earth had joined forces with the Decepticons in space, and so the Autobots elected to do the same to better fight their enemies. Soon after, when the leader of the space-based Decepticon forces, [[Scorponok (G1)|BlackZarak]], began heading for Earth, Raiden, the Autobot Headmasters and [[Grand Maximus]] gave chase. They were unable to stop him, but luckily, no sooner had he arrived than Ginrai tricked BlackZarak and the Earth Decepticon leader [[Overlord (G1)|Overlord]] into blasting each other. Back when Shouki was manufactured, he was "Mach"...

At Doctor Fujiyama's lab (provided by Shibuya Electronic), he and Atari Hitotonari watch as "Development Code Mach" is rebooted. Later, Mach is with his brothers Night and Snow, in preparation for testing together. Fujiyama is a bit tired of Mach's overly eager attitude, so he assigns babysitting duties to Hitotonari. Before his regular energon cube feeding, Mach asks Hitotonari... why was he made? What is his true purpose in life? Hitotonari, having went through similar questions herself, advises the Trainbot that he should think about it, and make his own choices for himself.

Elsewhere in the lab, Nightbird has broken out thanks to her evil AI "brother", Shadow. The two exploit the lab's resources, upgrading the ninja robot's chassis.
