Throughout the history of the Transformers media franchise, both Takara and Hasbro have occasionally released official stop motion videos to catch audience attention, highlight play features, serve as "buzzy" novelties, and in general to sell toys. This type of marketing was first deployed in 1986, then grew more common in the mid-2010s.

Toy Commercials

Stop motion was common in both American, Japanese, and European commercials for G1 toys, dating back to the very earliest toy commercials airing in 1984. The most conspicuous example, albeit mostly as a curiosity piece, is the long-format stop motion version of "Scramble City."

A series of stop motion animated shorts were made for Transformers: The Last Knight. These stop motions were made to promote the toys from The Last Knight's toyline.

War for Cybertron Trilogy

The first War for Cybertron Trilogy stop motion animation was produced by animation studio Counter656 and released through the official Transformers website. Rather than be made publicly available, fans had to decipher special codes found on the toy packaging using a certain type of light, then type them into the website. Once the user had cracked a certain number of codes, a part of the video would be unlocked and made available for download. The full video was later uploaded to the Transformers Official YouTube Channel. Another set of five stop motion videos was filmed by Counter656 for Hasbro's YouTube channel. These videos were framed as fighting game matches and featured elaborate combat scenes between Autobot and Decepticon opponents.

Counter656 was also commissioned to animate five additional shorts for Netflix's social media accounts to promote the release of the War for Cybertron Trilogy animated series. The Transformers Stop Motion Netflix Anime videos feature the Autobots and Decepticons competing for social media clout by producing videos inspired by various Netflix original series.

Cyberverse

The Cyberverse stop motion was a Christmas special stop motion. It was about a snowball fight between the Autobots and Decepticons. It feature figures of characters such as Windblade, Grimlock, Bumblebee, Megatron, Starscream and Optimus Prime.

Stop motions featuring multiple different toylines

The Transformers Holiday Food Fight! was a Christmas special stop motion that featured both BotBots and War For Cybertron Trilogy figures. The main plot is the Decepticons are visiting the Autobots for Christmas dinner where various pranks are pulled on both sides result in a food fight breaking out. Events then rewind and it's shown that the BotBots are behind the pranks.

The most recent official stop motion contains figures both from the War for Cybertron trilogy line and Studio Series 86 line. Such as Arcee, Hot rod and Cyclonus.

The Transformers: The Movie 35th Anniversary Stop Motions

In celebration of the 35th anniversary theatrical release of The Transformers: The Movie, a set of six shorts were animated by Counter656, with some members of the film's cast and crew participating in their production. The Transformers: The Movie 35th Anniversary Stop Motions focused on behind-the-scenes events from the movie. Four show various characters as actors, working with an off-screen director. The remaming two act as humorous "deleted scenes" showing alternate bits of the movie. The shorts primarily featured figures from the Studio Series line as well as the various War for Cybertron Trilogy sublines.
