Transformers is an ongoing comic series from Skybound Entertainment that debuted on October 4, 2023. It is the first Transformers title released under Skybound, following previous publisher IDW Publishing's loss of the license in 2022. The series is part of the Energon Universe, sharing continuity with Skybound's Void Rivals, G.I. Joe, and M.A.S.K. comics.

While coping with losing his older brother, Spike Witwicky, and his girlfriend, Carly, discover the derelict Ark spacecraft just as the Autobots and Decepticons have reactivated. With Decepticon leader Megatron mysteriously missing, the Cybertronian Civil War resumes on Earth, forcing humanity to reckon with the alien invaders. With the Decepticons seeking to suck Earth dry of its energy to fuel their conquest of Cybertron, Optimus Prime and his few remaining troops are forced to utilize what limited resources they have to protect the planet. Meanwhile, tensions among the Decepticons are high; Starscream and Soundwave clash for leadership, slowly driving the faction to split down the middle.

Creative team

Transformers began with Daniel Warren Johnson writing and drawing the series for the first six issues, with colors provided by Johnson's longtime collaborator, Mike Spicer. At issue #7, Johnson shifted into purely scripting the series, with Jorge Corona taking over as the primary artist. Johnson and Corona's tenure would conclude with issue #24, allowing Skybound founder and Void Rivals writer Robert Kirkman to take over beginning with issue #25. Kirkman was joined by Dan Mora for his initial six-issue arc before Jason Howard took over as the main artist starting with issue #32. Mike Spicer remains onboard as the series' primary colorist.

The series has also featured several guest artists and fill-ins for some issues: the aforementioned Jason Howard was the artist for the "Origin of Starscream" arc in issues #13 and #14; Sarah Stern served as colorist for issues #15, #16 and #29; issues #19 and #31 featured art by Ludo Lullabi for two Megatron spotlight stories (with colors provided by Adriano Lucas for issue #19).
