There is one area where Graysharp's always-forward philosophy is definitely not in effect... he's big into disco. No, really. He loves it, and has become quite the dancer, putting his fancy footwork to use tearing up the dance floor. Well, maybe it's new to them.

In battle, he naturally specializes in ramming attacks. Once he gets a good football-style run going, he can move at 10 meters a second, but is still nimble enough to juke to the sides to dodge attacks and obstacles that might trip him up. The end result of this charge is an absolutely devastating collision that can take down opponents many times his size, and if he doubles up with Grayox in a doubled-up ram attack, there's little that can stand in their way. And when he isn't smashing headfirst into things, his Sharpner (シャープナー ''Shāpunā'') blade can create a web of laser beams around it to slice through even the hardest rock.

Graysharp is a Beastformer from the Generation 1 continuity family.
Sai-turday Night Fever.

See because "sai" is Japanese for "rhino" and wait stop put down that baseball b-

Graysharp (グレイシャープ Gureishāpu) isn't one to look back. Reigning as King of Petra, he's a cheerful, go-getting sort who's always looking to the future, always wanting to keep up with the latest news from across the planet. This can give him a bit of tunnel vision, plus his impulsiveness does sometimes lead him to act without thinking. Thankfully, his ever-patient subordinate Emperor Grayox can reign him in most of the time.

And when he isn't smashing headfirst into things, his Sharpner (シャープナー Shāpunā) MVP Weapon can create a web of laser beams around it to slice through even the hardest rock.

  • Graysharp (Beastformer, 1987)
  • ID number: 9
  • Pack: B
  • Accessories: Blade-weapon (usually)
Part of the first series of Takara's Beastformers toys, Graysharp is an anthropomorphic black rhinoceros (as in, the species called "black rhinoceros", not a black-colored rhinoceros) with yellow robotic armor. His left arm ends in a spiked mace ball. The Battle Emblem on his chest reveals one of three symbols when warmed up; Fire, Water or Wood.
He usually comes with a silver blade-weapon marked with the same ID number as on his back. However, Beastformers is notorious for toys coming with someone else's weapon; it's unclear if this was just originally poor QC, but in the sequel series, this semi-random weaponry was actually turned into a "gimmick".
He was only available in the "B Pack" assortment (which was only printed on the shipping case), and came in a red-grid generic "Cybertron Beastformer" box. He came with a Transformers-style bio card with a painted character image on a red grid backdrop, though there was a chance his bio card would instead be replaced with the rare "Holography Mirror" hologram card featuring Platinum Tiger.

  • Ramune Beastformers Battle Card (1988)
    • Meiji ID number: 26
A gold-foil "Battle Card" of Graysharp, featuring his painted character art from his original bio card, was available in randomly-packed sets of cards that came with ramune-flavored candy tablets, sold by candy/snack company Meiji, during the post-Transformers "RPG" sequel series. The back of the card features a severely truncated bio, with data for the game from the Meiji chocoball SD figures' packaging.
Though this card shows line-art of a super-deformed Graysharp toy, no actual toy was ever produced.

Notes

[edit]
  • As he was not sold in the post-Transformers sequel series and thus had no bio card, his "RPG"-era bio comes from the Hero Special 4: Beastformers mook. This bio gives him the nickname "Sharp" (シャープ Shāpu) and notes he was born on the Petra Peninsula.
