MVP Weapon
MVP Weapons (MVP武器 Emu Bui Pī Buki) are the tools of powerful Beastformer and Laser Beast warriors from the planet Beast. Each one has a special "Miracle Victory Power" (ミラクル・ビクトリー・パワー Mirakuru Bikutorī Pawā) that can only be activated by its specific owner, and only with a proper charge of energy. These powers are widely varied; some are capable of immense destructive power, some provide defensive capabilities, others have much more esoteric, if not outright magical uses.

Toys
[edit]Beastformers
[edit]
Every Beastformers figure came with a handheld weapon. Each one is sculpted with an ID number on it, indicating which Beastformer figure it belongs to (the figures having sculpted numbers on them as well). These were treated as nothing special in the Transformers-branded first half of the line; in fact they were so not special that the individually-packaged toys would frequently come with the wrong weapon. Why this happened is unknown.
With the move to the "RPG"-themed Transformers-less Beastformers sequel, the newly-named "MVP Weapons" and their occasional mismatching became an integral part of the line's new gimmick, the Beastformers Role-Playing Game. In this dice-based game, any Beastformer would do a standard 1 point of damage to their opponent with a successful roll, but one equipped with their matching MVP Weapon could do an extra chunk of damage when a specific "M-Number" was achieved on the roll. These stats and the descriptions of their fanciful powers (which did not actually affect gameplay) were printed on the new bio cards each figure came with.
(For the twenty-odd toys that were only released in the Transformers-branded part of the line, the Hero Special 4: Beastformers mook gave those stats. Or you could simply suss them out by looking at the Beast's ID number: the last digit of their ID number is their M-Number, with "0" and "1" having M-Numbers of 10 and 11.)
This encouraged kids to buy more of these toys to juice up their armies. Mind, these figures were sold relatively cheap, a whopping 200 yen in 1987, and in 1988 they were also made available in gashapon capsule machines to boot. Also, baggies stuffed full of random MVP weapons were given away in various store promotions and contests.
Typically, figures that came in box sets and with vehicles were very unlikely to have the incorrect weapon. Only one example of a weapon mismatch in a multipack has been found so far, in the Transformers-era release of the Red Phoenix Fortress.
