A couple of questions:

There's no doubt this list should exist, but at some point it starts to cross over from true franchises into strictly toy lines.  Should it be moved accordingly?  Or is there an argument that ''every'' toy line has some kind of fiction associated with it, even if it's just character backstory derived from another franchise? (ie, Alternators basically relies on G1 for its fiction.)

Missing Items

[edit]

Raised for discussion: this article should probably include such franchise subtitles as "Battle for the Spark" and the Allspark Power from the movie lines, though I'm not sure where they'd fit.

Also, should the Japanese versions of various franchises be mentioned? (Galaxy Force, Micron Legend, etc.) If so, where?

More Things to Figure Out

[edit]

To be added, soon as I have time to dig up dates:

  • Robot Masters
  • Smallest TFs - is this a subset of G1? Where should it go?

Not sure -- more merchandising lines than franchises

  • Heroes of Cybertron?
  • Chloro-Q or whatever they're called? -- Repowers 02:49, 30 December 2007 (UTC)

What should be here?

I think that, at the very least, the page should be rearranged. As you say, stuff like Machine Wars, Animorphs, 1-2-3 Transformers, etc aren't "true" franchises.
The mainlines have been G1, G2, Beast Wars, Beast Machines, RiD, Armada, Energon, Cybertron, Movie, Animated. Other stuff has been derivative of it (either at the time with Machine Wars, or after-the-fact like Alternators), done to fit in with other stuff Hasbro's doing (Titanium, Star Wars, Crossovers), weird sidelines (Animorphs) and what-have-you. And I think the page should reflect that with more than bold links. - SanityOrMadness 23:35, 1 May 2008 (UTC)
